It's an excellent article with an accurate and intelligent take on what is about to happen. Fortunately there are enough intelligent people in both the EU and the UK to make sure the damage is as limited as possible and hopefully as short-lived as possible too. 2021 will be a reset for us all in many ways, not least for the many millions of us who remain committed to our European identities. This marks the day when we stop being "remainers" and start being "rejoiners". It also marks the day when others stop being "leavers" and become "aloners". This all reminds me of a very old joke about the salesman's wife who sued for divorce 6 months after the wedding. When asked by the Judge for her grounds she replied "non-consummation"! All he ever did was sit on the end of the bed and tell me how wonderful it would be. It's always easy to sell green grass on the other side of a fence. It's much harder to keep the herd contented if it isn't there. We will be back.

The next started almost a year ago but for the time being it is enough for the "enemy" to continue to shoot themselves in the feet. There won't be any "resistance" at all. No-one wants to make things worse. Time is all that's needed. When the time is right the arguments and reminders will begin. Quietly at first but eventually the demands will become overwhelming and then the politics will react. We will rejoin. You can bet your house on it. There will still be the hard-core group who think like you and will be moaning in perpetuity about us "taking our country back". It's ever been so, but they are a small and diminishing group. What happened in 2016 wasn't a reflection of their views. It was just an unfortunate combination of events that conspired together. You're damn right time is all that's needed. Each day that passes without the sky falling on our heads, as promised by YOUR ideology. Each day where we get by just fine without the EU breathing down our necks. Each day that we seek to source goods from outside the protectionist single market (thus reducing our reliance on the EU). Each day our non-EU exports increase, and EU exports decrease. Each day the percentage of UK GDP reliant on the EU drops. Each day the internal tensions of a wannabe superstate (without democractic consent) ratchet up. Each day we strengthen cultural and commerical links with countries outside of the EU. Each day we innovate and legislate to out-compete the EU's regulatory albatross. Each day that passes, your sad dream of being a star on someone else's flag diminishes. Thank God (and Boris) for that.

I assume you have bet all your properties on it then? “Enemy, Resistance” ffs you are becoming rabid again just like the US Election thread

Mosley spent six years in the Labour party....hardly fleeting. He was elected twice to seats and held minister positions in government. So you're as poor with your accuracy as usual. Your misunderstanding of fascism's connection to socialism back then is frankly illiterate. As for you stating you never criticised your parents on Hol....well, you're just dishonest. Edited by Stirlingsays (31 Dec 2020 1.56pm) If you seriously believe that someone like Mosley had any real commitment to what we understand today to be socialism then I think you are deluding yourself. And it's what we understand today that's important. What was then, was then. Leave it where it was. Move on. It's typical of you to extract half of a story and attribute entirely incorrect assumptions to it. My recollections of my parents' attitudes are not criticisms. They recount a pathway of understanding from one era to another. A pathway which they trod but some, including you it seems, have not yet found

It is because that's how the arch Brexiteers see people like me, and not because of the way we see them. No-one with my views is in a rush. Time will prove who is right or wrong and that time will pass soon enough. Tides always change direction and pendulums swing. Now is the time when those in favour of Brexit need to get on the pot and start to deliver. Opposing something is easy. It's delivering the alternative which is hard.
