There’s room at the table for one more Steeleye. You’d love the conversation, zero politics, zero football, just whose round is it next.

May I suggest you fly to Belfast, taxi to Dublin, flight with Ryanair to Tenerife, no questions asked. More than one way to skin a cat under lock down restrictions.

Thus cool

I'd say there will be problems with a British passport currently. You're not allowed to cross county borders in Ireland either. From 6 this evening we have a month of the most stringent lockdown. Border is being patrolled too. Travel ban from UK currently until 6th. Lockdown with 5km limit until end of January. Oh so much fun. What a way to start a year! I can't even be bothered to drink.

That's right mate. You only get blind drunk on a school night ha ha I remember

My local doesn't pretend to serve food so have had the opportunity to drink in the pub about twice in the last 8 months. Three times perhaps. I do like a few midweek afternoon drinks and leave at closing. I miss stumbling down the road to the taxi rank.
These days it's a couple of civilised ales at home. Theoretically saving money and being healthier: hasn't really worked out that way.

Happy new year all and I propose a toast to not having too much remoaning or triumphalism on the subject of Brexit. Frankly it’s getting tiresome.

So, the only county in England where the census gave you the option to put Cornish as an ethnicity is not bigoted towards fellow English people?

As for “many folk living here”, you should probably rewrite the 2011 census and Wikipedia’s description of Cornwall as they show the percentage of white people within Cornwall as 96% of the population compared with the national average of 80%.

I am not responsible for what those running the census want to establish! Nor am I the least bit interested what the colour of anyone's skin might be. I am only interested in how they behave. Maybe it was you who edited Wiki! Anyone can add whatever they like, whether accurate, relevant or not.

It's an excellent article with an accurate and intelligent take on what is about to happen.

Fortunately there are enough intelligent people in both the EU and the UK to make sure the damage is as limited as possible and hopefully as short-lived as possible too.

2021 will be a reset for us all in many ways, not least for the many millions of us who remain committed to our European identities. This marks the day when we stop being "remainers" and start being "rejoiners". It also marks the day when others stop being "leavers" and become "aloners".

This all reminds me of a very old joke about the salesman's wife who sued for divorce 6 months after the wedding. When asked by the Judge for her grounds she replied "non-consummation"! All he ever did was sit on the end of the bed and tell me how wonderful it would be.

It's always easy to sell green grass on the other side of a fence. It's much harder to keep the herd contented if it isn't there.

We will be back.
