They think it's all over? ... probably no such luck.

OK Boris, how about a referendum now for the English on independence for England ... that might put the $hit up Mrs Krankie?

Now there is a cracking idea.

that’s probably because England isn’t full of Englishmen anymore.

It never was. It's always had more women and children than men, along with a number who were born elsewhere, including some who are on their way to becoming Englishmen.

I suspect what you really mean is that it isn't full of Englishmen like you. On that we can agree.

There is absolutely no desire to dominate anyone. You probably won't believe it though.

History would tend to disagree with you. Throw in geography and language and you have a nation that appears more prone than most to have a desire to interfere in the affairs of others even if only because it harbours deep insecurity (let's not forget that it has only existed as one country since 1871 and was divided into two for forty years of that period) France to its West, Russia to its East and with its access to the oceans always done so purely with the blessing, or not, of the UK

Throw in a history of economic colonisation out to the east (modern-day Germany has a huge chunk of what it might be able to claim a legitimate ownership of to the East) and you have a nation that always needs keeping a wary eye on. Both enjoying a huge positive in terms of some natural resources such as coal whilst being almost completely lacking in others such as oil and various ores, and you have a nation-state that has to secure a variety of commodities to ensure its well being.

The EU tempers Germanys worst instincts. But the Euro has completely thrown that balancing act and handed Berlin far to much power. Europe will rue that day eventually.

I note that you didn't actually answer my questions preferring instead to trot out some anti-German rhetoric.

We ought to be very proud of what we achieved in helping Germany to overcome it's past and establish an education system which produces wise and hard-working citizens. They are the ideal partners for us, and us for them. We are much closer ideologically than either are to the French.

No one 'becomes an Englishman' that's ridiculous.

People are the genes they were born as, everything else is a construct, as is the idea of nation.

Paper nationality is just that....paper.

The only thing that ever mattered was allegiance and what you hold that to. That makes you much more important than birth location or paper documents asserting 'nationality'.

If you don't have real allegiance ....whether you were born here or not then your nationality is little more than a detail.

Most people understand what a real Englishman or Englishwoman is...they know it when they see it..Same for Scots, Welsh and Irish or indeed anyone from any country they are proud of.

Not quite sure how you meeting a few nice Krauts, all of whom promised and crossed their hearts that they had no intention of invading Poland in the near future cancels out actual history.

Outside of the wars and its statecraft I like Germany as we are close genetic cousins.

However, as a state the Euro is basically the Mark and it treats most of the EU like its poodles. Indeed, whenever you hear someone calling Britain the US's b1tch, remember that they are probably fine with how Germany treats poorer EU countries.

For anyone really interested in how kind and caring the German state is....ask a Greek.

Actually, I am one of the kindest and most caring guys you are ever likely to meet. Unless, of course, I am faced with bs. That can make me a little bit cross.

You will though have to take my word for it as I have absolutely no wish to meet you.

Key to understanding the threat Germany pose is that the Euro is NOT the DM. That is the point of it. If Germany had to sell its quality products (and lets call it as it is, if you want a good piece of machinery then Germany rarely lets you down) in DM's then it would not be selling as many as it does in Euro's. And that can only continue if places like Greece and Italy are basically left destitute.

I genuinely don't believe that this was the intention when the single currency was conceived and launched but it is the reality of it today with a vicious Catch 22 situation in which the German export economy can only under-pin the rest of the Euro-Zone if the south of the EU is kept in poverty. So the Germans get richer and the south gets poorer. Not a recipe for future stability.

And Germany will act. We have seen democratically elected Governments in Greece and Italy f***ed over by way of protecting German and French banks. When they talk of bail-outs almost none of the money involved ever gets near to a Greek citizen, going instead directly to banks in France and Germany.

Having supported your reinstatement on this site, I hoped that you may temper your vitriol towards those that have different views to you. Having read your replies on this and other threads over the last few days, how wrong I was

I see Stormont and Holyrood voted the 'deal' down.

It is looking more and more likely that the UK will break up.

Not over brexit alone, but over covid.

It is obvious to them that they are best at managing themselves, free from Johnson's old etonian clowns disastrous performance.

From abroad, the UK looks like 'plague island' veering from one disaster to another.
