It appears as though a compromise was reached. The EU wanted a 14 year transition, the UK offered 3 years but a settlement was reached at 5.5 years. For avoidance of doubt I have not seen the text of the whole deal but the above is what has been mentioned. I believe the position is that the amount the UK can catch in its own waters will rise from about 50% now to 66% in 5.5 years. Then it is free to reduce the EU %, but will have to pay either (possibly very high) compensation or face retaliatory tariffs if it does so. This is why the fish brigade are crying betrayal. So without brexit it would be 50% in 5.5 years ! Correct. Its the compensation / tariffs issue if we reduce it from the 66% in 5.5 years that is causing the anger. It is to compensate for the losses that will be suffered by French fishing communities I believe, from what I can understand anyway.

It's not exactly what they wanted but they now have 5 years to plan to increase the fleet and lobby our government for what they want when this deal runs out.

What value has that so called influence been? Give me some examples. The single market was actually Thatcher's great achievement she saw at once the country's access to a huge market and it has brought the UK prosperity. That is why Johnson was so desperate to get his deal. It won't be anything like it is now, with tariffs (it is not tariff-free as stated) and regulation the UK will be gradually strangled and lose it's competitiveness. Financial services, not trade, provide 80% of the UK's income, there is nothing for the UK in this deal at all, in fact the access to the EU is restricted. All pain for no gain.

We had a vote prior to which all we were told about was the pain. And we voted to leave. That vote is finally about to be honoured. Have you any concept of what might have happened to this country if it had not been? The real and genuine pain that would have ensued? Anybody who continued to try and get us to remain in the EU once that vote in 2016 had been held and counted needs to be hanging their heads in eternal shame for the 'pain' they did their desperate best to put this country through. The divide that Remoaners created is so deep now that I suspect it can never be healed. So go to your biscuit tin and reward yourselves with an organic, ethically sourced digestive and give yourselves a big f***ing pat on the back. No gain? How about the fact that very basic principle of one person, one vote has triumphed despite all the snidey, narcissistic and utterly vacuous attempts by total s***-c***s? That's a big f***ing win my book.

The EU up to last month wanted all Schengen citizens' visas to be the same. The UK wanted Romania and Bulgaria removed from this 'equality'. Does anyone know the outcome of this? Not sure if this helps under “ how long can I go for”.

Whatever happened to sovereignty and freedom from Brussels rule-taking? Would a brexiteer just like to run those arguments through again? After all it has been a matter of life and death to them for 4 years? Jettisoned by Johnson for his day in the sun, in a matter of hours. Thank you brexiteers for our increased 'control' and 'sovereignty' which you have actually conceded to the EU. Detail was never your thing, was it? I mean it wasn't written on the side of a bus in huge lettering.
