Eddie, took the can, maybe rightfully. . But it just goes to show every team has a sell by date , and managers can not always see it coming or alter that quickly, in particular if the main problem is a lack of real quality throughout a squad, and an injury list taking out key players.
It certainly shows how much care will have to go into any change of manager.

Your right, in general Managers last a couple of years then need refreshing, in that sense there's no shame in admitting things have gone stale its just something that happens. The problem is, we went stale a long time ago, and Croydon Roy supporters want him to have some kind of long term dynasty. Don't believe for a second that they see him as a short term manager, they just use that as an one of the many excuses they have lined up for him.

They are like Corbynista's, the support the man, not the club. They don't believe in a meritocracy, and don't care how many times we lose just as long as we have and old chap who they identify with in charge.

Howe was looking to build to the future and took on a lot of young players with bags of potential for a lot of money. Ultimately, they had too much to learn and came unstuck.

I'm sure he's learnt that lesson now.

Just a thought .I know its Palace but surely we would have identified a suitable replacement for Roy when the time comes .So presumably if its going to happen and its either Eddie Howe or Frank Lampard ? It will have to happen soon .As presumably they will be both be employed by start of next season. If we go to end of season with Roy our choices might be reduced.

Just my opinion but I see Dougie Freedman's presence, the amount of control that the Chairman likes and the pissing around in the transfer window as being a major deterrent from the level of manager most of us aspire to.

Clearly we're looking at alternative's for next season but whether they're available or not now is different matter.

I couldn't see Dyche having the set up at Palace at all.

Mr Hodgson's roll was to keep us up, he needs to go at the end of this season and we need to be able to bring in some more young blood for the new manager to get his teeth into, otherwise..

I don't imagine Lampard being interested in the job straight on the back of Chelsea and wouldn't reckon he has the experience to address the size of the task anyway.

Howe got schooled by Roy twice last season but (I think) had quite a lot of control at Bournemouth.

I wouldn’t want this lot playing Bournemouth after watching them today. Every manager eventually reaches his sell by date at a club. Howe was last season. Roy was 5pm on 13th Feb 2021.

They are obviously looking for a stepping stone.

I think you're right but the question of how to replace him isn't as straightforward IMO. From memory Howe's attacking team managed one shot on target against us and he signed Solanke and Ibe for about £40mil.

Agree it won't be easy to replace him especially as the first thing a new manager will ask is how much transfer budget is there ? And also its a bit of a rebuild,to say the least .But to stand any chance along with some funds he will need time. Now would be as good as any.We our relatively safe so could have the rest of season and pre season to get squad upto scratch ! Not point leaving it until we are really in trouble.
