The EU isn't Nato. Both have entirely different entry criteria. For whatever reason the EU eased the way in for Greece, who conned them on the way and then have spent a long time paying for it. Ukraine joining the EU, which is possible, would have no bearing at all on whether it would be admitted into Nato, which I cannot imagine happening in the foreseeable future. The Eastern European countries who joined were far from "3rd world countries". They wanted to align themselves with the west after decades of being dominated by Russia. Building a democratic barrier between ourselves and the mafia state to the east made sense, and does so even more now. I may not have been clear enough on the EU/NATO situation. If an aggressor were to attack an EU country then the others would have to come to its aid. ergo, NATO countries would get involved therefore an EU country is part of NATO by default. When Romania joined they were a 3rd world country. I'm not saying that we should not have let them join. But they should have entered as prospects (using a sons of A analogy), without full rights. i.e freedom of movement. etc. Until their standard of living was brought up to a higher level.

The UK have just announced that the decommission of coal fired power stations will be delayed. Lets hope they do something about the emissions. Natural Gas will soon be replaced by Hydrogen anyway. Its already started. Russia can then stick up their a***. There are already trials underway.

The viability of renewables/alternative energy sources is a huge positive outcome of the Ukraine war. Under existing conditions, the west would normally have continued looking for oil, accelerated fracking and continued with existing nuclear facilities. However, the Ukraine situation has made me extremely cynical of media and political news.

Then you should look at what the motives are for the media to push false narratives and why that self same media is so heavily pushing the netzero agenda. Maybe start with who owns and who funds it.

Interesting series of programmes on Radio 4 this week about London banking. It was on around midday yesterday, but google "money laundering on Radio 4" and I'm sure you'll find it on play-back or whatever. The story progresses day by day, until (I presume) we reach Friday's programme about the current situation where Russian money and money 'stolen' from developing countries are run through the British banking system and some of this is used to finance politics. You have to remember this is the BBC, so whilst the historical stuff might be close to the truth, you might wonder how much they hold-back when talking about today's situation. Listen and make up your own minds - sorry I can't find the link (yet)

This is not just about Ukraine and Russia. These is no replacement for that amount of oil in the European economy so this is effectively economic suicide for Europe. Instead of accepting responsibility they will just blame Putin for all of their economic policy failures.

It won't be these elites whose elderly have to battle through winter to stay alive. If they had to suffer they wouldn't do it. But they will justify others suffering for their 'morality'.....which amount to covering for their own bad past policies. Edited by Stirlingsays (31 May 2022 2.42pm)

"Vladimir Putin's enemy Alexei Navalny facing extra 15 years in prison over new charges In March, Vladimir Putin's foe Alexei Navalny - who nearly lost his life when he was poisoned with Novichok - was sentenced to nine years of strict regime prison for 'fraud and insulting the court’. In a Twitter thread today, the anti-corruption campaigner said more charges have been filed against him which could see him spend another 15 years behind bars. Prosecutors allege he "created an extremist group to incite hatred against officials and oligarchs", he said."

Edited by Forest Hillbilly (31 May 2022 1.21pm) Fully agree. As a country we should never have opened up so fully to money laundering. It's like the black market, it's always going to be there....and I fully appreciate that financial systems are full of unethical 'sell my own grandmother' types. However, during and since the Blair years it literally become a standing joke. Edited by Stirlingsays (31 May 2022 6.24pm)
