Our economic failure is down to the Tories and it can be traced back a lot further than Liz Truss’s misinterventions. We need a stable and respected leader not a self indulgent Oaf. The Tory party needs to reform the way it chooses its leader. It's absurd the way all this has been mishandled in recent weeks. We have become an international laughing stock BUT it is just possible that international partners could rally round to support and address our weaknesses? It is not in their wider interests to see us broken and disheartened. With support, good leadership and stable government I really believe we could rise from the ashes fairly quickly. We experienced economic growth in the last quarter, albeit minor but still there. Everywhere I look I see packed bars and cafes. Is everything rosy? Of course not. And inflation is a problem but these are not uniquely British problems. This idea that we are in some kind of economic free-fall is ludicrous. And entirely manufactured.

It's certainly not rosy. You'd need to look further than the bars and cafes and at what type of employment people "enjoy". Have a glance at the NHS, schools, public services generally, foreign owned utilities, transport and banks, what people drive around in and consider ... what could we do better? You actually hit on the word in your last sentence. Edited by Henry of Peckham (21 Oct 2022 6.56am)

I hope he will show some common sense and not stand but you just don't know with these Tories.

That's what happens when tactical voting is seen to be necessary to get the result you want. Remove the need for the tactical voting and a straightforward choice gets made. For good governance it is essential that the MPs choose who leads them. They have to have confidence in them, if it gets lost then the PM loses their job. The idea that the membership has a role is ludicrous.

Does this surprise you Willo or do you think it was always a plan?
