I do not wish to leave Selhurst Park, but let's face it the new stand is taking longer than the Taj Mahal or Sagrada Familia.

If we were to move there are three sites all very close to the ground.

1. South Norwood Recreation Ground
A massive site close to Norwood Junction. Already has football pitches on it so will have permission for sports use. Might have restrictions on development.

2. Whitehorse Meadow
I think these were once allotments but look little used these days. It is directly opposite Selhurst Park on the other side of Whitehorse Lane. Its size looks identical to the current site. We would be moving less than 250 feet!

3.School Playing Fields
I don't know the name but if you look to the right of South Norwood Lake you will see a massive grass site. It is hemmed in by two railway lines so could have problems developing the site.

So many schools around use that field for football/athletics. I personally wouldn't want to see Palace take up that site at thsat expense

You obviously dont use the Arthur. The concourse was never designed for that many people. Its a throwback to when it was half seats and half terrace. This was never a problem before we reached the prem because it was never full. It is regularly full these days and its a problem.

Sorry, but your post is contradictory. The concourse coped with far more spectators when the stand was part-terrace, part-seats than it needs to now, and furthermore the stand was full to capacity numerous times before we had a sniff of the prem. I'm not defending the current state of the stand, merely humbly questioning your logic.

Out of curiosity, what would be the largest possible stadium in the current location? Let's say we have unlimited funds, and we are able to buy out Sainsbury's.

The Main Stand is already "in the works", so that's done. I assume the Holmesdale is already pretty much maxed out in terms of seating for that space.

So for expansion, that leaves the Whitehorse and AW. Would we be allowed to build a two tiered stand on either the WH or the Arthur? Best case scenario, with unlimited money, and no obstacles from local government, what would a newly renovated Selhurst Park look like?

I believe from this being looked at many years ago, that the only way that the Arthur could be made 2 tier would be to dig out the bottom layer and build a smaller, low rise bank of seats and then cantilever a second tier out above the lower to cover most of it.
The stand cannot be built any higher than the present one because of the angle of the sun, which would infringe on the 'Right to Light' of the houses in Park Road.

i think all 3 sites would have access issues?

im pretty certain that the WH was built with the intention of building another level above the current boxes?

Correct and the foundations are, apparently, suitable for a two tier structure

The concourse was used by the seats from halfway back only. The terrace entrance was by exterior steps at either end with a van type thing selling burgers etc.

Regarding the Arthur as an "international" fan, I am fine with it. Going to an old stadium located in a residential area, I expect that it will be crowded and have out-of-date facilities. I prefer that to something soulless like London stadium.

The seats are comfortable, and the posts aren't that bad in terms of obstructing the view. I don't bother to eat or drink at sporting events, so I don't care about concessions.

The concourse is a bit claustrophobic and the bathrooms aren't adequate, but I've been in new stadiums in the US that have woeful bathrooms with ridiculously long lines. The worst thing about the Arthur is probably the lack of view from the top rows. So I just make sure to sit in the lower half. I like sitting there.

Surely given the length of time that the move / upgrade has been discussed these local sites would have been investigated & found to not be suitable (for one reason or another) otherwise they would still be being talked about as "under consideration" & I havent heard of any of those 3 possibilities being mentioned in favourable terms in relation to any possible relocation for many years.

See Rudis comment above. The concourse only served the higher seated bit. The terraced sections below were accessed from the side. We always called these seats the "posh seats" from where we were standing on the holmesdale.

The capacity of the Arthur is 9754 that’s more than you would think and more than a third of the whole ground. Probably cos the seats are so small and space is cramped. I don’t know if there’s anything in the plan to replace the seating, would be worth doing.

New seats in the AW is the very definition of polishing a turd. Let's be honest, the Holmesdale is the only reasonably acceptable stand; the "old stand" and the "new stand" as I still call them are just old cow sheds, and the Whitehorse Road stand has never looked "right".
