That’s old news which has been fully covered. NHS staff are human and suffer the same doubts and susceptibility to misinformation as others. Less so the higher up the clinical ladder they are, but even there there were a few reluctant ones who did not want to participate, either because of age or concerns about the speed of the development. It's old news because at the time outcomes were still unknown. It was far more important for hospital staff to be vaccinated since they were coming into contact with vulnerable people when the rest of the country had been locked down in order to help them.

Seems like a good time to roll out this video again..... After that the NHS vax mandate was scrapped.

He must be based on the number of unrelated threads he crops up in. When such an unfit character as Trump first won in 2016 I was appalled. I was aware of him well before he became a reality tv “star”, with his bully boy attitude and narcissistic character. My disgust was fully confirmed during the 4 years he was in the WH but he plunged to new depths when trying to overturn the legitimate result in 2020. That the American people could forgive him all that and choose him again fills me with dread for all our futures. That others seem laid back about it puzzles me. So I am not obsessed at all. I am concerned because I have reasons to be concerned. Keeping him and his failings in front view is something we all ought to do. Calling out his diversions, delays and excuses must be done to avoid the propaganda of the witch-hunt claims taking root. No connection to Spangles, singers or Palace. Plenty of other connections though.
For the avoidance of doubt any comments in response to a previous post are directed to its ideas and not at any, or all, posters personally. |

There was always going to be some who were reluctant, especially those in certain communities where misinformation was circulating. This was also during the second wave when doubts about the transmissibility protection from the Omicron variant were surfacing. Yes the mandate was lifted quite quickly as a practical measure. The NHS could not afford to lose so many staff so redeploying them to non customer facing roles was adopted as a compromise. This does nothing at all to undermine the basic principle that everyone who could then get vaccinated should have been vaccinated. We were in the situation together and we needed to solve it together. Those deciding to not play their part were selfish and thoroughly deserved all the scorn sent their way.

Yes, we've heard all that untold times. What's the relevance to the thread? At this point none at all but Trump’s behaviour during the pandemic was almost entirely directed at ensuring as little damage to his reelection chances. He thus held up selfishness as a virtue and through his example weakened the cohesion of the response. There’s always some link to make!

Was his influence on the COVID response in Britain really that important?

I remember supporting my sisters and aunt who are Frontline NhS nurses in protest at the mandate up London at the time. The government finally caved in to common sense. They were never redeployed but remained in their same positions.

I would hope he does not have too much influence here but given the attitudes that regularly surface in these pages you do have to wonder if they have in some minds. Those who avidly support him in the USA are frequently referenced by some posters here, as we saw only a day ago when the odious Alex Jones was in connection with the conviction of a racist agitator here.

They were never redeployed but remained in their same positions. It coincided with the beginning of a general relaxation of the strict application of the rules and in some places, where resources were very stretched I can believe that redeployment wasn’t a practical option if services were to be maintained. Pragmatism being generally preferable to disaster.

I don't watch The One Show so was unaware she wields such influence.
