Anyone else Refreshing Palace "News Now" in the hope of some link or possible transfer news. Really looks like tomorrow will fizzle out without any excitement.

Does anyone on the outside really know what's going on with Ferguson? When he and Eze arrived I sourly remarked that one was injured even before he arrived and the other pulled a hamstring as soon as he joined us, and someone sarcastically asked whether I realised that footballers occasionally get injured. Did anyone really expect this injury still to be unresolved in October?

Slightly different subject. This thread has lasted 186 pages since speculation started in late July. I think we can all agree that we haven't had a great return on our hopes, fears, frustrations, arguments, anger, etc. But what would we do without it?

I must admit I expected Ferguson to be fit for the re-start, presumably the club did as well. Unless they hope that a lingering “injury “ will keep the tribunal price down! Seems bizarre he is obviously nowhere near ready.

I've just limited my visits there, although if you do get a good 3-4 hours without looking it bizarrely increases your expectancy of seeing something

In essence, I do not think you are alone!

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

This window hasn't been bad.

Having finished mid table-ish, far above the trap door points-wise, we lost nobody of note (especially Zaha) and we added Batshuayi, Eze, Ferguson and Clyne so far.

I know some think Clyne is a crock and a has been, but I believe he will prove the shrewdest signing of them all. Time will tell.

What are fans' ambitions? Amd are those ambitions actually worth chasing from a financial PoV? Keep in mind too that nobody knows what the game's finances will look like come May. Splashing zillions can mean no more Palace if things really get bad.

With good management we will once again finish mid table, given the squad as it stands.

Have we solved all our problems? No. We have chipped away at them.

It's not that bad. Add a really decent midfielder -- or get Meyer working -- and we are in a great place.

Rumours that Zahavi is no longer Wilf’s agent, the contract was until the end of this window. If true somewhat bizarre

It certainly has not been good either, we have not spent that much, especially, after you deduct the money we gained from Sorloth, which was an unexpected bonus (or not as time will tell!). We are still without a proven quality striker and whilst Bats did reasonably well when we last loaned him, Its remains to be seen whether he is the 20+ per season goal getter that we so desperately need. I'm sure Roy will once again do his best as always but I suspect that this season will be an even bigger struggle than the last!

Once again forgot Scott Banks!

Highly rated close to first team and very young. That is precisely what we were screaming for all last season.

With keeping wilf and "like new signing" injury returns a pretty good window.

I now know Sarr was probably fantasyland but not signing Downes is my one disappointment.

As an aside Midland may have it in that we are ruthlessly holding out to January to exploit EFL desperation. But will not half the clubs in this division be playing the same carpet bagger game?

I suggest you take a look to see how many strikers got 20+ last season, or the seasons before. And consider what one might realistically cost.

PS "get Meyer working". I live in hope he rises to his wage the way Ayew did last term.

Add to the rest of the plus points we are looking at comfy top half

Responding to the highlighted bits first GPW (I like your post BTW)
1. Not losing Wilf together with the new signings means we not only have a full 25 man squad but a stronger squad, so that's good.
2. Clyne currently is a short term fix and much will depend on what game time he gets between now and January. He may prove to have been a good 'buy' but I reckon that Eze will prove to have been an excellent purchase if we can keep him long enough. I reckon sooner or later one of the big clubs will be making moves for him.
3. Several Championship clubs are (apparently) already in significant financial trouble according Risdale - we can all probably guess at the six or so clubs he has in mind. As Palace fans we know only too well where bad financial management leads us, and whatever one thinks of Parish, he isn't going to let us go there again.
4. We've addressed some of our problems. there is a danger in trying to solve all your problems at once - think Fulham in their previous promotion, Villa last season. Also throwing money at the problem doesn't work as Man U have found out to their cost and Bournemouth who overpaid for several players before being relegated.
5. Finally saying we're in a great place is overstating it IMO. We're in a good place (for Palace that is) but not only do we have to see this season through in safety, we've also got to manage the pile of contracts due to end next summer so as to get the best outcome for the club I do expect some transfer activity next window in preparation for that.

God a front 4 of Wilf, Eze and Sarr/Benrahma playing behind Batshuayi would be positively arousing. Obviously we're not going to sign either but just imagine it.

We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold...
