'Labour’s fracking vote hailed as one of the most successful opposition motions ever, say experts'. Interesting, and really haven't Labour got rid of Truss, on the altar of a relatively minor issue? An amazing week. We are seen as an international joke, and for me it hurts.

Of course there are some who are jowly old bores and duffers of a certain vintage, conversely there are polymaths and intellectuals with a wide range of life experiences. At the hustings I attended they were not awash with those 'Long in the tooth' and there were many who were far less advanced in years than I am. Edited by Willo (20 Oct 2022 7.22pm)

I will wait for moaning about wasting money and how £150 million will help certain things before I reply to the cage that wasn’t rattled!

Nominations have already opened and will close at 2 p.m. on Monday. Candidates must get the backing of a minimum of 100 MPs. If there are three candidates, the one with the least votes will be eliminated. There will then be an indicative vote from Tory MPs, and if there are two candidates left, the party membership will have until 11 a.m. on Friday to vote for the new leader.

It seems that many, if not most, of the MPs, and indeed Central Office, don't want the membership involved again and are doing their best to make sure they aren't. I earlier heard an MP describe the present method as well past it's use by date, something I wholeheartedly agree with. I have also heard many members say that they don't want to be involved and want it left to the MPs who, after all, are the ones who will have to work with who-ever is chosen. After the Truss fiasco, which has worked out exactly as I forecasted it would even before she was pronounced the winner in the last "contest", I sense a great deal of contrition in the mood of Tory members. Is that something which extends to Willo Towers?
For the avoidance of doubt any comments in response to a previous post are directed to its ideas and not at any, or all, posters personally. |

Agreed Same goes for rules on declaration, lobbying, corporate gifting, second jobs etc etc - as Ian hislop said, currently far too loose and needs overhauling. Easy to abuse the system
