"The UK can cope outside of the EU." Fast forward.... "We are heading for a self inflicted catastrophe." "Peace is at risk." "Little Englander." "We cannot reform from the outside." (erm, you couldn't from within) Glad he's going. Lied at some point or much more than once. His position was untenable. But I'm not sure it wasn't from the outset of the EU campaign. He said that the UK should leave the EU unless he secured sufficient reform in negotations. But then campaigned on the back of doom-mongering and horror stories about the likely scenarios if we voted out. If it was going to be that bad then he should never have a) been willing to leave with or without some concessions and b) put it to a vote in the first place - if it was that important he shouldn't have risked it. He has done so for nothing other than political avarice. He believed him being PM was more important than risking the UK membership of the EU. Edited by OknotOK (24 Jun 2016 4.08pm)

So in touch with the people he failed to win a seat in said last election, securing just 32% of the vote? Isn't that the election in which the Conservatives are now being accused of having cheated over their expenses - so determined were they to stop Farage?

He took a gamble and lost. He knew the scale of what he was doing. However, the winner is Sir Nigel Farage, who I voted for at the last election. He has proved that he, and only he, is the only leader of a major political party who is aligned with the people. Not with me he's not.

Didn't help that you had a comedian messing about with the democratic process either. I'm no fan of him or his party but there's no point denying how far they've come in a short space of time.

Surely this is the end of Corbyn as Labour leader, he wanted to remain just like Cameron did and Cameron walked. Corbyn is a dead man walking. He was conspicuous by his absence in the debate and seemed happy to let the blue on blue Tory feuding take the headlines. To my mind he is a guilty as Cameron in playing politics with this referendum and did fcuk-all except give the odd limp sound bite.

How many of those 17million really looked into the issues before making an informed decision rather than relying on hyperbole. As I've said, I accept the result and came very close to voting leave myself, but for very different reasons than most I expect. But now is not the time for 'told you so's.' No one wants things to go tits up for purposes of one upmanship. It's time to think about the way forward now and discuss what we want an 'independent' UK to look like. Do we want one that genuinely looks after the interests of Joe public or one that is just more of the same austerity and siphoning of cash from have nots to tyhe haves? To look on the bright side, it's a real opportunity to exact change for the benefit of all UK citizens. Sadly, if we see the same old neoliberals taking the rudder, I can't see it happening. Nick even though I was pro Remain albeit with huge reservations, I have an issue with this. It is exactly the position Labour took after the last General Election. The electorate don't get it. You know what? maybe they don't, but if that's the case it is the politicians who are to blame. What makes you think all the REmain voters knew what they were voting for? maybe they went for the status quo so they didn't have to think. Cameron, Corbyn etc could not get their message across, they misjudged the whole thing, now we live with whatever consequences (positive & negative) that will bring.

Wonder how many leavers knew about this.. The Calais border treaty and Brexit: what is France saying? Le Touquet agreement where British border controls are in Calais. Their mayor has just announced he wants renegotiations... Welcome to the Dover jungle.

Leave it Gusset. You claim to be debating on a higher plane but cannot resist a dig.

This is my personal message to Hoof and people like you. You have f*cked me. My pension will never recover Your have f*cked my children, the economy will never recover. Dublin will be happy tonight and watch what Edinburgh does. You killed the only goose we had laying decent sized eggs. You did this for your own gain knowing it would adversely affect a huge proportion of people, especially Londoners like the HOLers. And then you boasted about your gains. You used the disenfranchised to get your own way, even though it won't benefit them and will in the end adversely affect them. The infirm will be in particular jeopardy, funding for the NHS will fall quickly. It's a good job you made money on the exit so you can buy your private health care. Everything will grind to a halt for years to come, you can forget big infrastructure investments. This was not a risk it was fair for you to take on behalf of others For all of these reasons I despise you. Maybe, when you look back on what you did, you will come to despise yourself too. Not with me he's not. Are you the people? No. Your politics is only supported by a tiny minority of people in this country. Yesterday's result should tell you that Farage is more attuned to the public thought than Dave, Comrade Corbyn or Mr Invisible who supposedly runs the Lib Dems.
