Try paying the taxes we do if you want the same. People on the dole here have far more than people who work (the minimum unemployment is 205 euro a week). Now there will be more taxes. The Irish will just take the money and the politicians can siphon it off on pet projects. The people will moan. The French are at their limit and will riot. The Germans will wallow in smugness whilst the people moan about Merkel. The Spanish, Greeks and Italians will vote increasingly nationalist parties in and will be baying for an EU referendum, which they won't get.

However we do need to do something for public confidence, a well off friend told me they will be spending money in the high street etc. as they feel obliged to help out.

What a surprise! Having spent weeks away from here I come back to see what the Brexiteers are saying about the most damning report I can ever remember on Government incompetence and what do I find? Almost nothing. As pointed out at the time this Government deliberately held back publishing this report as it feared it's impact on the 2019 election result. Now it allows it's publication shortly before the summer recess in the hope it will be in the long grass again by the Autumn. My argument for years has been that Russian interference in such a close referendum result in 2016 could well have been sufficient to tip the balance. Now we know that the reason the Government hasn't seen any interference is not that there wasn't any. It was because they weren't looking. Brexit ought, of course, be cancelled. It's what anyone with a scrap of integrity would argue for, whatever their personal opinion on it's merits. That it won't be, tells us all we need to know about the integrity of those pulling the strings of the current government. Whether public opinion on this will be strong enough to ensure action is an open question. Brexit weariness is a reality. Not though with me. This report is a turning point on the long road to see this stupidity reversed and, indeed, in the need to see our democratic system overhauled and modernised to ensure it becomes truly representative.
For the avoidance of doubt any comments in response to a previous post are directed to its ideas and not at any, or all, posters personally. |

Would disagree I don't think the EU would cancel brexit. This is the first big event without the UK road-block on European progress. Whether it is right, I don't know, suspicious of enormous financial packages in general. But the countries who have suffered most, Italy and Spain, will be the recipients of the largest financial support, not France and Germany. That's pretty cool of all those members to agree that.

Except that: - In 2016 we had a Pro remain government who urged the country to vote no. - The report is not a smoking gun I don't know why Boris did not publish it at the time I doubt it would have made any difference. Successive governments back to Tony Blair (Litvinenko poisoning) and before that have been soft on Russian interference this report is yet another example of that. - The report does not say that the Russian interference in 2016 was a game changer. In fact what is says is that nobody could be bothered to inquire if the Russian have interfered and by how much. So no Brexit should not be cancelled and no one apart from you is saying it should be.

My admittedly biased view is that this is just a smoke screen/bulls*** EU stunt to cover up what will effectively be another bail out of banks BUT I also am happy to be educated on that matter because if it is truly an EU legislated and controlled form of taxation over the 27 states then it is of genuine significance.

It would appear you've spent more than a few weeks away. Brexit happened on the 31st January of this year. You cannot "cancel" something that has already occured. But yes, yes. Reds under the bed and all that. I bet you're swallowing everything ole Carole Consipracy Theorist is vomiting out on Twitter, aren't you? Have you donated to her legal campaign? She'll need every penny once your lot lose in court AGAIN for once again making claims with no evidence.... ..and yes, incidentally: if you make the claims, it's on you to provide the evidence. So, when Carole gets her day in court, with all this compelling Russian evidence, I'm sure you'll be fully vindicated, right? "Cancel Brexit". God almighty, the whimperings of a long-dead argument. Broken record.
