Obviously the sooner the better for a manager but is far more important to get the best fit possible even if that takes longer. We never seem to have a good pre-season and are usually signing players on deadline day after 2 games and I don't see this one being any different.....however it would be nice one season to have players in for 38 games not 36.
The ups and downs of Palace have left me older than my years |

One of the top 5 players in football history and would attract big names! Maybe can lure cristiano ronaldo for a year as his career is nearly over? Plus he knows this league inside and out due to playing in it. In those 9 words your post lost all credability...

Although I will happily admit that I had never heard of either of them before they were first mentioned in despatches I have been following what has been written and wonder whether Pellegrino has actually been "used to building good teams on scarce resources" or was he a one hit wonder with one good season behind him much as Pardew was in his first season with us.

Of all the candidates identified so far, Dyche is the safest option, though few of us would cartwheel on that news. There is a decent contingency option of allowing Sammy Lee to manage pre-season preparation etc etc. That then leaves the transfer market to worry about. Bournemouth are already thrashing us on that front, so the Board need to assess the relative strength of our position in the transfer market without having a manager appointed.
Joe Hart looks angrier than a kid with no Easter eggs, David Silva looks like he won't smile for a week. Vincent Kompany has taken his shirt off and looks like he might just start a fight with himself. The visiting dressing room will be a glum place. |

He certainly the best known quantity, but "safest"...maybe? He's certainly proved he can get promoted from the Championship, but that's not what we want (hopefully!) is it? He's less married to 4-4-2 than manacled to it. It's a system that struggles against the five-man midfields that proliferate in the PL and isn't how we generally play. He doesn't use wingers in the expansive way we do and has entirely different expectations of strikers than we do. His away record last season was worse than Pardew's home record; just one win (and we know who that was against). It's a record that will relegate him again if it doesn't improve. I can't see a long queue of desirable player wishing to join us if he was here. I've nothing against the bloke personally, he's loyal and seems to give of his best, but is he really how we see our future in our fifth season?

We know what's out there and we could have interviewed a half-dozen shortlist three times over by now. There isn't some perfect fit, that ticks all the boxes twice over, that we've somehow missed up until now. There is what there is and we need to recruit the one who most closely meets our criteria so that we can get on with all the things we urgently need to do.

Why does it take Palace so long to actually do anything should be used to the process of getting a manager we've had that many the past few years
