Yep, the remain argument was purely an economic one. No it was far from that. I will expand but the argument may have been rehearsed somewhere up the thread; and might seem a little pointless to restate at this time.

Doesn't sound like much progress has been made Barnier keeps insisting we need an extension. Hold your nerve Boris, hold your nerve.

Thought Barnier looked rather tetchy in his press conference and the tweets put out by David Frost (our top bod in the talks) makes for interesting reading. Had been very impressed with Barnier during his wrangles with Mays team but suspect Forest Gump might have appeared rather dapper compared to those chumps. It is clear that the EU is pushing for no change when it comes to access to British fishing waters allied with keeping the UK tied to the ECJ and so on. Both absolute no-no's for the UK. Not sure what gives here but it is clear that both sides are not budging and giving themselves very little room to back down. Still it is good to get back to some proper political argy-bargy once again.

I think the EU leaders have others things on their mind at the moment so Barnier a civil servant is allowed to continue with the policy they laid out pre virus. At some point I think the EU leaders are going to focus on these talks and hopefully they will realise it's in their best interests to be more flexible. Many of the EU countries were in economic trouble before the virus which has just made things even worse. In addition to that another virus of a different kind has devastated the Mediterranean countries olive trees. So I would have thought that Italy, Spain and Greece would rather have a deal than face tariffs on their agricultural exports to the UK. However politics sometimes trumps common-sense so we shall see. Edited by Badger11 (25 Apr 2020 7.30am)

Oh dear Carole Codswallop, and your band of loony tin-hat conspiracy theorist "reds-under-the-bed" FBPE f***wits. Turns out it wasn't "the Russians-wot-won-it" after all. Every story this stupid woman touches ends up being flashed around the media in a desperate frenzy to explain away the clear collective insanity of leaving the EU.... and then ends up quietly retracted. Here's what Banks said, in late 2018, as the media were gleefully rubbing themselves silly over the prospect of a major Brexit donor being dragged through the mud: “I am pleased that the Electoral Commission has referred me to the National Crime Agency. I am confident that a full and frank investigation will finally put an end to the ludicrous allegations levelled against me and my colleagues. There is no evidence of any wrongdoing from the companies I own. I am a UK taxpayer and I have never received any foreign donations. The Electoral Commission has produced no evidence to the contrary. The Electoral Commission has referred me to the National Crime Agency under intense political pressure from anti-Brexit supporters. I am already in court with the Electoral Commission. In witness statements the commission has admitted it got its figures wrong in relation to a previous investigation and it even submitted its final report without taking evidence from us. Isn’t it funny that none of the financial contributions made by George Soros to British political campaigns are ever subject to any level of scrutiny by the Electoral Commission despite his being a foreign national.”
Me neither. Go easy on the cats, Carole. It's not their fault.

Still nothing in the MSM about this, other than a mealy-mouthed Mirror article: "They were right to refer them to the police, even though his political opponents smear-campaign was the only evidence they had". That's it. The entire media apparatus "went to town" on Banks and co. when this was announced. Complete feeding frenzy. Where are they now? Seriously? The BBC? C4? ITV? The New Statesman? They were all screaming this from the rooftops. And now? Their silence speaks volumes, if you ask me. Edited by davenotamonkey (30 Apr 2020 2.14pm)
