Well it’s all doom, gloom and negativity on here this morning, I think I’ll head over to the Tottenham forum for a laugh. Whilst true that Everton and Spurs are having similar problems and that their fans are going into meltdown also, at least they both have a squad of good players and where half of them don't know if they're going or staying next year (apart from Kane).

I think it's time to simply accept what has been obvious to some for a while. Parish has dropped the ball. He has allowed so many players to run down their contracts and at the same time has run out of money leaving no ready cash to spend our way out of this. No decent manager will want to put his name to what looks like an impossible task so we will not get the big name he seems to seek. The season starts soon and pre season even sooner. So we will simply see the usual pattern of Parish appointing his mates. Step forward Dougie 'unfinished business' Freedman and his new assistants Derry and Paddy. Lots of talk of knowing the club inside out and promoting youth. And then the agonising drop down the divisions begins and we realise we don't need that new stand after all.

I have long suspected our finances are perilous ( I hope I am wrong).

It is an issue that we knew this was coming, we could have had a smooth transition over to a new manager and built for the future, but now we have put our selves in a situation where relegation is more likely. We have missed a good oppotunity to progress and that's on Parish and Freedman

As others have said, its certainly a huge disappointment but better that the concerns come out now rather than a few weeks into the job. My personal instincts would now be to go the internal route with Freedman, Derry and McCarthy with perhaps Mark Bright becoming the Sporting Director. They all know the club/players extremely well, can clearly work well together/with Parish and understand the depth of the task. this reminds me a bit of episodes 3-4 of When Eagles Dare - the players ultimately decided how they wanted to play and reverted from Ollie's tactics. Shame we don't have the character of team to be able to do that now. I'm not sure they know how to play at their best because they haven't done it for so long. I might actually watch the Brighton play-off semi episode again. Guaranteed to brighten any mood and remind us of the good times!!

The one positive we could possibly mine out of this is that Favre was not likely to be our manager for the next 10 years and probably not even more than 12 months. If he'd been successful a bigger club would poach him in the blink of an eye given his past record - a bit like with Ancelotti at Everton. Although it may have been exciting it may not have been the most stable appointment. Also, if his English is not great (as has been suggested) could he easily have conveyed the tactical nous he is famed for? Don't get me wrong, I was excited by the appointment, but until we finally sign a new manager I'll reserve judgement. The way things are going Parish's dream of having five or six youth players in the first team could become a reality sooner than expected if we don't have a manager in place to decide which senior players' contracts to renew!

It'll all be ok in the end. If it's not ok, it's not the end.

I think you are right about Parish this time around. After the summer debacle of taking ages to appoint FDB and then having to correct is straight away, Parish was lucky in the fact that Roy was available straight away. I can't see Allardyce wanting to come back here (nor do I really want to). This time we have gone through the same long winded procedure and still not got a manager in place. Whether Parish will be able to get lucky again with this appointment we'll see. But it will be lucky not good planning. He has been a good chairman, but he's also been a lucky one at times. I think he's really pushing that luck this time. The decision to have so many players out of contract at the same time makes this a job that is daunting to any potential manager. We have been saying for the last 3-4 windows that the squad needed more investment and it's been ignored. Originally posted by orpingtoneagle

I suspect that Freedman is dusting down his badges as we speak.
