Netanyahu is about to unleash the full might of the Israeli military into that place (a lot of it American equipment and missiles)....It's going to be a bloodbath.

Blinken is touring Arab states trying....good luck with that....to placate them. Probably being Jewish himself he's not exactly the best person to send.....but the egos of these people.

This is going to be very uncomfortable for the west who are going to face accusations of double standards....but it's hardly the first time.

Honestly I'm glad I'm not having to deal with this one.....prior policy has limited their options.

Be 'interesting' to see what tactics they do employ. Those Hammas fighters will know every inch of that ground, and no doubt have the ability to move about underground.

All the miltary high-tech in the world can only do so much when it comes to urban fighting and I suspect the Israelis are not going to want to go 'toe to toe' for too long.

If we are meant to believe the narrative that Hamas have evolved into this highly efficient, and tightly knit fighting force when it comes to not leaking all its plans in advance then they would have war-gamed this next phrase and will have all kinds of surprises up their sleeves.

No doubt got plenty of supplies stashed away, and with all kinds of prepared postions and booby-traps.

This could get very messy, very quickly.

And if it does not, and the Israelis pull off some lightning quick vctory, probably poses more questions than a drawn out period of street to street fighting.

Yep, I think it will get very messy. From the statements the Israelis are going to go in with overwhelming numbers and just take the hits to destroy the tunnels and I imagine anything that moves. They want to flatten Gaza and are prepared....it seems....to take the deaths to do it.

The question will be how do the Arab states react....It's why Blinken is frantically going around them....no doubt saying whatever he thinks he can. Ultimately this further damages America's soft power in the region....let's hope that's the least of it.

While these are all dictatorships their populations will be enraged.

Ground penetrating radar should show where tunnels cross roads, scrubland etc. Doubtless they may have the tech to locate living beings underground (could be hostages there). Then once ascertained that the tunnels are empty, pump them full of seawater so as they are t used again. Then move onto the next area and repeat.

Iran has threatened direct intervention if the attacks on Gaza don't cease.....Hamas leaders seen being praised by Qatar government officials.

In addition to its air attacks in Lebanon Israel has bombed Aleppo airport in Syria in the last few hours.

This war looks like the end of Netanyahu and potentially his Likud party will suffer significantly for a long time due to the large scale anger and revulsion towards the government over failing to detect and stop the attack, a cabinet minister was chased out of a hospital in Tel Aviv by an angry mob when she tried to visit wounded.

This means that Netanyahu will be looking to go out being known as the guy who smashed Hamas.....which means what we think it means.

It's all fizzing up before the cork pops.

I'm also hearing that Egypt has refused to let US and other western nationals leave Gaza through the Rafah crossing.

Egyptian Authorities are refusing to let western nationals leave Gaza unless the US forces Israel to accept the Rafah Border Crossing be a designated aid crossing where Egyptian and International Aid can be brought to Gaza.

Will this and all the international backdoor negotiations and threats that's going on behind the scenes lead to a delay in this invasion? Hard to say.

Interesting.

Sadly, many civilians are still going to die. As if being forced to live in a 5hlt-hole all their lives wasn't bad enough.
With all the military expertise in the world, it will be impossible not to incur significant civilian casualties whilst attempting to pursue Hamas. Israel and everyone else knows this. Yet, without intervention, this is going to happen.

The taking of Gaza and building Israeli settlements will be achieved.

Knowing the humanitarian disaster that is unfolding, and the Western world does nothing to calm the situation. In fact, it encourages people in Britain to wave Israeli flags. WTF ?

Are we living in a civilised world where civilian casualties are just part of the body-count of warfare, at whatever cost ?
To me , it is Ethnic cleansing and land-grabbing. with a Hamas cherry on the top.

At least with Arab countries now being more vocal, we might see some thought given before more military action.

I am currently watching David Lammy being interviewed by Trevor Phillips. It is appalling that such an untalented MP can be a front bench spokesman for the HM Opposition. Just parroting the 'Israel has ever right to defend themselves' mantra. He even unwittingly admitted that Israel became a state because of the holocaust.

Yup. Ran away from Victoria Derbyshire’s questions. A total car crash. But of course he is MP for Stamford Hill.

Said he didn’t understand the law. The first black Britain to attend Harvard Law School and then a practicing Barrister

Given your username I like this post.

But I think some may be giving Hamas too much credit. The biggest issue Israel face is 123 hostages. If they decide to treat them as regrettable collateral it will be over by Tuesday and the Palestinian death toll will be vast.

Then the real problems begin.

He used to jump on any black cause going and was becoming something of a nuisance. So they kicked him upstairs presumably to control him and dilute his detracting qualities. The trouble is he was a natural activist but as front bench a complete fish out of water. Thank god the real work will be done by the FCO.

Secretly, Israel may consider the hostages already dead and therefore they can focus on eliminating Hamas. However there is an issue in that some of the hostages hold dual nationality and therefore there is probably pressure from the UK and others for Israel to prioritise rescuing them. Not easy.
Hamas are masters at tunnel technology and there could be a whole complex beneath the Gaza Strip. There was also an interesting article that Boris Johnson wrote on the Mail Online which was very informative; he remarked that EU and others had given millions in aid, part of which was piping for water/sewage etc. Apparently Hamas dug up some of it to use as rocket launchers, so it’s pretty obvious that their primary aim is attacking Israel rather than caring for their own citizens.

(Username suddenly appears to be a bit unfortunate!)
