I am not sure I would place too much significance to post-match interviews.

In public, most managers put some gloss on their team's performance even when it has been poor, or are at least very mildly critical in their comments, for fear of alienating themselves from the players.

In public loyalty to the team comes first but it doesn't mean that behind the scenes the manager is saying the same thing - or at least one hopes not.

I think you're right. I reacted negatively to his comment in the post-match TV interviews but when I heard the start of his post-match press conference, he said how pleased he was to get a point in a tone and with facial expressions that clearly said that Christmas had come early and he couldn't believe we'd got away with it. He then went on talking the loyalty speak you mention above.

A very good point Willo. He has achieved a huge amount for Palace

A lot of which is history & currently the club is at best treading water.
We will not make any further progress without a significant shake up in ownership.

Tompkins, also known as 'Tonks', bestrode the match like a colossus.

Surging forward in the 69th minute, he raced into the Albion box and planted a bullet header past the demoralised defenders into the gaping empty net.

With typical modesty reminiscent of Sir Bobby Moore deceased he just said he thought it was what the Selhurst Park faithful wanted.

And he doesn't even have a VPN.

Remarkable.

COYP.

I am sure we all realised that your quote about Tompkins bestriding the match like a colossus was channelling the speech by Cassius in Act One Scene Two of Shakespeare's Julius Ceasar. But was there a source for the other phrase you showed in bold, namely gaping empty net?

I am not disagreeing with you Willo, however, it is the future that matters, not the past, there are many example of business that were good in the past but they are not around today because they did progress and update as they moved forward. Frankly it's embarrassing seeing the progress of BHA, Brentford etc, whilst we tread water at best. Under Parish our recruiting has been abysmal, we have allowed the sick, lame and useless to extend contracts, we have no succession planning. Our EPL survival is really under threat and that has also happened under SP watch so please lets be honest we need more able and committed owners to take us forward and for that to happen Parish has to go!

For my own interest I checked how much Brighton had paid for certain players and it is clear their talent search and recruitment is absolutely sensational.
Caicedo - £4m
Mitoma - £3m
MacAllister - £7m
Solly March - bought from non league Lewes for a caravan (ok, Ive just made that last bit up). He did come from Lewes however and apparently he was on our books as a teenager too.

We can only look in envy - pound for pound that must be the best recruitment in the Premier League.

From last season's squad :

Cucurella - Bought for £15 Mill. Sold for a sum that could reach £62 Mill.
Bissouma - Bought for £15 Mill. Sold for a sum that could reach £30 Mill.
Trossard - Bought for £18 Mill. Sold for a sum that could reach £27 Mill.

Despite selling these players they are still doing well in the PL.

Don't forget Ben White, free transfer and sold to the Gunners for £50mil!

PS I know we were crap and it's particularly difficult to watch us being toyed with by that team. But would you really swap with Leeds?

No, would never swap!
But would not mind the energy of this Leeds side. Palace looks like a team full of pensioners in comparison.
