These conversations on here should be happening at the highest levels. Questions shouldn’t be ignored. Is CO2 really the enemy? Do you seriously think they aren't? How to manage expectations and the changes to lifestyles that are required are huge issues. The science is understood. Determining how to respond and then getting the people to understand what is needed, and then to accept it, isn't easy. As this thread confirms. Younger generations get it. Ours is more cynical.

Yes but it seems so important that everyone agrees it's man made but there's nothing "we" can actually do beyond voting for politicians who might offer a solution. I don't think there is anything we can do as individuals. Some are making their own efforts, but they are tokenism, really. This has to be done collectively, and for that we need leadership, education and, quite possibly, coercion.

Possibly because younger generations have less experience of being lied to and let down by successive governments.

e.g. they seem to have re-defined "photosynthesis" since I left school. It's all about word play and making everything both an existential threat and the proposed solutions fluffy and cuddly. I'll say it again. It's simply a huge transfer of wealth and power that's being greenwashed.

Oh, they have plenty of experience of being lied to, both by governments and the older generations. Much more likely they have been better educated on this subject. My grandchildren certainly have been.

Dealing with the impact of climate change is not something our youngsters can, or will, ignore, even if some selfish, regressive, stupid old fools will.

I will thank any politician who avoids doing what is popular just to ensure they remain in power. Which is why I fear the likes of Truss.

This is a desperate clutching at straws, which only confirms the biases of the cynical right.

Which is why I fear the likes of Truss. I can understand your viewpoint but trust in politics is low currently. And I don't trust any of them either. I think we are at a stage where rich individuals, hedge funds and companies are more powerful than governments. That's what we need to reverse - if it's even possible. Words coming from our governments so.etimes remind me of the proverbial pissing into the wind.
