I think we should offer homes to any Ukrainian refugees fleeing the trouble.

There's a few homes in the Soho area that have been purpose built for this possibility already.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

The issue with Putin is that he has no ideology, no real political heritage and is therefore very unpredictable and hard to strategise against.

His 'heritage;' is that of a Lieutenant Colonel in the Gestapo of a communist totalitarian regime.

Until the "History of Russia" speech, I think he has been ultra rational over the last 24 years; however, he is a classic nationalist political dictator.

The question is whether he has moved as he senses weakness in the West, or has difficulties at home, and the populace needs a distraction.

My word of warning is keep an eye on Taiwan.

He is an old man who is looking to leave a legacy.

The man is risking world peace for his own ego.

The Russophiles who populate this and other Palace sites should take note of what happens when a leader makes sure he stays in power for life.

Russia wants to send its gas directly to Germany because it does not trust the corrupt regime in Kiev (who have turned off the supply in the past). Germany wants to receive its gas directly from Russia.

Why would anybody want to stop that from happening? Russia is a sovereign nation. Why on earth should anybody else be involved in how it conducts commercial transactions?

If I have a side it's for the everyday Ukrainians.

Putin is not our guy, few know that Russian nationalists are jailed in Russia....he's an authoritarian.....He's a social conservative sure....he's on our side in the 'cultural war', doesn't buy the political minority and alphabet ideologies....but he's KGB through and through....That said the west have botched relations with Russia for over thirty years.

Now our living standards are going to get even more expensive than what was already happening due to the covid over-reaction.

I will also say the west is full of double standards....it can't seriously claim that invading a sovereign nation is some terrible wrong as it's been doing that for decades. Similarly, the west also lies to its population as to justifications and motivations. Forget the 'sexed up' Iraq dossier, I remember Blair literally defended the deliberate bombing and killing of broadcast journalists in Serbia.

If Russia does indeed occupy Ukraine, one assumes no team will be able to represent Ukraine in that scenario, FIFA, EUEFA, OLYMPIC committee, should state, if Ukraine is not represented then neither can Russia partake, you could include many sports

I am more worried about what is going on in canada than ukraine to be perfectly honest.

I also dont trust anything in west side of the media anymore. If only NATO and the EU left ukraine alone Russia would back down. simply as!

The EU and US need to be taken down a peg or two.

Corbyn suggests a return to diplomacy the Minsk agreement.

But its unlikely, the Ukraine signed up but never had the slightest intention of keeping to it, instead building up arms while sitting on it for years.

As a result Ukraine is a lot stronger militarily than 2014, but surely can only delay the inevitable.

Regardless of all the other factors, an invasion of a sovereign country in Europe is a big no no.

I'm sure many in this country were sympathetic to Hitler before WW2 and look how well that turned out.

Northern Europeans should not be indulging in these squabbles when our very existence is at risk. We should be united against a common enemy.
