Still think it was irresponsible for a medical professional to travel abroad at the present time Yes, it's crackers, no wonder nobody knows where they stand or what's going on. I just found it part disturbing, part darkly funny that I've been spending months being ultra careful on account that I live with a vulnerable person, to then have to go to the dentist (no choice really), and end up being treated by someone who's effectively plugging me into the consequences of their Dubai flight and week long family holiday. Thankfully I was fine but it was a worry for a time. He really was talking about it without a care in the world.

What is even more crazy is apparently certain healthcare professionals do not have to self isolate after travelling abroad even if it was a holiday. I will get my wife to try to confirm this next time she is at work

According to their site passengers need a clean Covid test result to travel there and isolation is only required if another test is required on arrival and then until a negative result is received.

Edited by becky (26 Jan 2021 7.12am) Valid point! I did translate it from an Israeli site but it does seem to say the same here [Link] I had considered that some of this might be due to the first dose, but at the same time there are multiple mentions of 7 days post second vaccination being the study end point or point of protection [Link] [Link] [Link] , so it might that 7-10 is the time of maximum effectiveness rather than when the second dose starts to kick in, and that it is responsible for these figures.. Either way, very good news!

They deal with so many patients that it definitely stands out and something that shouldn't be happening at this time.

Seems he may have twisted this to suit his requirements, not sure it was meant to cover holidays. Will let you know if can find out more

Thanks! Yes, the whole thing was a surprise to me. The breezing in and out of countries and also doing so while in a very public facing medical role.

According to the Omni calculator 16 year-olds (as young as it goes) should receive the first jab by 25 April. Suppose it depends on what percentage needs to be done for it to be considered herd immunity has been achieved; estimates vary but 70/75% seems to be about average.
