...back on topic for the thread. It seems they took BLM off the back of the shirts last night. I'm assuming racism is solved now, and we can close this thread, or do a few more statues need to come down before racism is fixed?

I think the players were worried that BLM were going to start approaching them for money as they were such staunch supporters! It will be a case of, “done our bit, time to get back to earning more money and spending it on cars, houses and yachts“. Or is that too cynical?

I wonder how the crowds would react if they were there for the 'taking a knee' ceremony?

In fairness to the players this happens quite a lot now, normally when they are away playing. Some poor unfortunates come to their houses threaten their wife and kids in order to redistribute the wealth.

I think the 'BLM' on the back of the shirts only lasted one game because there is money involved regarding image rights for names. When it comes to money there is only one way these players will go. However, a smaller 'BLM' badge (including clenched Black Power fist') exists so my personal boycott of watching PL games continues. Are they still kneeling before kick-off?

Given Trump and others said players should be banned from playing in the NFL for taking a knee, I think that show of solidarity isn't that bad. It's just most people, including protesters in the UK themsevles don't understand the context. Lots are just running round like Daenerys Targaryen forcing police and others to take a knee as a sign of subserviance, which is wrong.

The Police are fashioned into what the liberal left establishment wanted. It was deliberately crafted this way. They stand there and take it and sometimes the short sighted among them (including their management ) 'take a knee'. They are so rooted in the mindset of deescalation that situations that require robust physical action are feared. Unless it's against groups the liberal left establishment don't like of course. If robust action ends in any negative consequence it is highlighted, criticised and not supported: people are hung out to dry far too easily....so they choose non action as it still pays their mortgage. No one gets to have their cake and to eat it too. You can't have law and order by Disney.

Edited by Stirlingsays (26 Jun 2020 9.13am) I would imagine that people in the USA who support BLM would love to have our police force yet over here the left are still not happy with the police. I don't know what more they can do unless they withdraw like CHAZ. When you look at the routine violence in France and Spain dished out by the Police you realise just how fanatically well are cops do often under extreme provocation and being videoed all the time.

They might be better than those examples but I don't think they do well personally as I'm not a fan of appeasement policing. For me peaceful assembly is an important right. However, when law and order breaks down and criminal acts are being enacted it's the Police's job to clear the streets and arrest people. Obviously I want that done with minimal violence, however the kind of nit picking that is done has the extreme effect of creating a media fearful supplicant Police force that can't actually fight crime but instead chooses its battles.
