My point being that we haven't sold our best players, which is a good effort if you think about the talent in our squad. We posted a £35M loss in 17/18 season, and that was delayed which was worrying. We haven't finished in Europe or sold anyone, so that loss may have deepened. You just can't ignore that as a fan? It may be worth considering the financial side when supporting the team, as we cannot throw money around. It only leads to high expectations and an underwhelming feeling at the end of each transfer window. If AWB has to go for us to progress or stabilise, then so be it sadly. Wilf is far more important. To lose both would be suicide. I understand what you are saying, but this isn't Football Manager on the PC, and expectations of what we can achieve and remembering who are we are need to be real. We could sign no one this season and probably stay up with a good couple of loans. There is nothing good to come from selling top class prospects and no need to do so.

We are not one of the top clubs with large commercial incomes. We have a smaller and much older stadium than most. We have a loyal, but in contrast to top clubs, smaller fanbase, we do not have a massive profile. The club cannot function by constantly signing players and never recouping any money spent. It's about managing the club and the finances in a responsible way. If we get good offers for players which aid that and whom we feel we can use the funds from to develop the club then the reality is we need to take it. As much as I like and rate AWB I do not see his leaving as going to be THE reason we would be relegated. Edited by Mwncisee (11 Jun 2019 2.00pm)

You are clueless. The quickest route to bankruptcy is to be relegated and the best way to achieve that is to sell your best players. The whole purpose of a serious football club is to improve the team. We can enlarge the squad with money but the quality of players you can buy is almost always determined by the status of the club. We are not exactly a selling club. You are failing to understand that we probably need to sell one of Zaha or AWB. Zaha is a more important player for us and AWBs value is at a good level right now. So If we sell AWB no players will want to come to our team because it shows a lack of ambition? What nonsense.
Trump lost. Badly. Hahahahahahaha. |

If United offer 60 mill for AWB we should take their hand off. He will be replaced easy enough. AWB is a fantastic player but he has his flaws and I would not be surprised to see him flop at United. Different story with Zaha, we wouldnt replace him for 100 million.

Chelsea just sold Hazard, Arsenal sold VanPersie, Liverpool sold Coutinho, Tottneham sold Bale, Barcelona sold Neymar.... At a certain price it makes total sense, and for a right back, even one as good as AWB, 50mm plus is the right price. Just as a side note, on the top of this thread page 15 (on May 21) I said that AWB would be going, not Zaha. It just made more sense.

If the point of selling AWB is to balance the books then very little of that money will be spent on players. That is a disaster waiting to happen. We need to strengthen our sick note defence, not weaken it.

Being reported by Sky Sports United will move for Max Aaarons of Norwich if their attempts to sign AWB fall through. And, amusingly if they are succesful, we will launch a bid for Aarons: [Link]

Totally different circumstances Hazzard is 29 and had one year on his contract. He also wanted to leave.

The difference is that big clubs sell players when they are no longer needed on the pitch. Clubs like us are forced to sell our best players. It sucks!

Don't want to lose AWB, but if he does leave, I hope it's to a club where he'll get Guardiola type coaching and be the best he can be.
