Phew. Really looked like we were letting them off the hook there - probably only a couple of overs from bad light.

What a way to finish. Now the serious stuff starts. Picking a side to actually succeed overseas.

Have to say hats off to the Indian team for the classy way they handled cook's retirement.

We are a bit flattered to win 4-1 but hey we will certainly be taking it. A fine reply by India today and a really sporting attitude. Back to the Premier League (ho-hum).....

There's nothing quite like winning a test match late on the 5th day. Fantastic partnership from Rahul and Pant, an amazing delivery from Rashid to break it and the perfect end with Jimmy knocking back middle stump to go past McGrath. A great series, with some even greater moments. Pleased that Curran was India's choice for the man of it too, after joining Kapil Dev as the only player under 21 to score over 250 runs and take more than 10 wickets in a series.
Optimistic as ever |

That ball that got rid of Rahul was the ball of the series. An absolute snorter, totally unplayable. And if we hadn't got him out it wouldn't have been long before they were within a sniff of turning us over.

I see the fast bowler I'll long been advocating for selection Olly Stone has been named in the 16-man England squad for ODI series in Sri Lanka.

He’s the quickest English bowler in county cricket by some distance but is injury prone and doesn’t do much with the ball. However may be ideal for overseas conditions. Certainly one for the next Aussie tour.

Certainly one for the next Aussie tour. Stayed fit this summer though....so hopefully he's grown stronger and his frame can cope. Hopefully they won't overbowl him......Introduce him via the shorter formats and then keep him for tests. Pace in Australia is a fundamental.....and we completely ignored that last time. Agree 100%. There just aren't many englishmen that can bowl +90mph.In English conditions we can get away with it as we have proved this summer. Abroad we can't.

Indeed it is. My general point is this guy has pace. On oversees wickets where movement is limited we are crying out for pace. The records of Anderson and Broad prove this point given the vast majority of their wickets are taken in English conditions and their records abroad are poor in comparison.
