Not sure what you are meaning there. You asked for five better than Guita. If you didn't see Bobo Anderson play how can you argue against him?

Different eras. Always tricky to compare players like that, unless you have all the stats etc. For me VG is a top class keeper and RH has made him number one. With his years in management and at the highest level of the game, plus what he sees in training, I’m pretty happy that he knows more than me (and you, I suspect). It then comes down to opinions.
As an aside, I saw Burridge play but I cannot remember enough to compare to VG. Can you actually remember Anderson (who only played 38 times and left in 1953) enough to say he’s better than VG?

Read the thread especially a post I made yesterday before you start accusing people like that.

The thing about Guaita is he's not a saint and has made mistakes and nobody says a word. If Hennessy had allowed West Ham's goal to go through his body then he would have been crucified.

Did you know that since Palace have been in the Premier League they have kept 100 clean sheets. Guess who is top of the pile for keeping the most??

I was reacting to your previous arrogant comment. I can accuse people of not knowing about stuff as well mate....

Of course he's not a saint, if he was a saint he'd keep a clean sheet every week. I'm sure Hennessy is at the top of that listm but he's also played the most games and behind a better defence than Speroni. He always has a mistake in him, doesn't command his area, and has let in some very poor goals. Not to mention the amount of set pieces he's conceded from poor positioning.

The defence seem calmer with Guita in goal, more confident to play the ball back to him and I think his distribution is better. The crowd certainly seem more confident in Guita's ability than Hennessy's and that has to be a measure of his qualities in itself.

There is actually no point in you saying you suspect RH knows more than me as a way to try and put me down.
I have never suggested in anyway I know more than Roy. He is the most experienced manager we have had for a while and knows football better than any of us on this forum. In fact I was told by one poster (don't know if he's still a Mod) that I should join a cheerleaders group because I said in print "Thank god Roy is our manager" all because I didn't join in the criticism that Roy was getting.

Anderson may have had a short career with Palace but I remember him well as he was a very popular and liked keeper at the time. I guess that the internet has changed things plus TV so there is far more coverage of football than there used to be. Along with that people forget past players and how good they were but now it's wall to wall coverage and couple of good saves that can be watched constantly have elevated Guaita to cult status and he can do no wrong in peoples eyes. But best Palace keeper ever after eight games this season no way Jose. Wait until he has a full season and see where we are then before crowning him best ever Palace keeper, he has a mountain to climb to be considered better than Jackson or Martyn.

I think we are very fortunate to have 2 excellent goal keepers in our current squad.
I have been watching since the mid 70's and I would rate Nigel Martyn as the best all round keeper we have had in that time, although for the most part, our keepers have no been the issue.

Lol. My comment was not an intention to put you down - it was an observation. But you’re right about old players. Having said that, the old player thing works both ways. Anderson’s last game was 66 years ago, and, in a much lower division, hence my saying it is so difficult to compare. To me Nigel Martyn was by far and away the best we’ve ever had.
I certainly don’t afford VG cult status but it is nice to have a keeper that isn’t being slated all of the time and that most fans are pleased with. My issue is that when that happens there is always someone there to say “he’s not as good as so and so” rather than just enjoying a good player.

I concur with these comments.

Guaita has always been a good shot stopper but was not that commanding when the ball was in the air but this season he has improved in this area.He is proving to be a very good purchase.

Bien hecho senor Guaita !

They will have worked on that with him over summer. Totally alien concept to him previously one would imagine

I beg to differ, buts thats opinions.
Never rated Speroni that highly.
His distribution was woeful, too small to command area at the top level, and then there was his collapsing on the floor method of penalty saving.
Nice bloke tho.

Whilst I don’t disagree as such, there was a 4 or 5 year period out of Speroni’s ten years with us when in my opinion he was top drawer. I would go as far as saying he was possibly the best keeper in the Championship and when promoted maybe even top six in the premiership (for a time).

That said, he didn’t start well at Palace and he was not anywhere near his best for the last 3 or 4 seasons he was with us.

Check out the away Brighton play off game, he made some incredible saves. Really incredible.

Good points well made.
I just think he's never been as good as some of our fans suggest.
Happy with our keeper now.

Older supporters would probably say that Jackson was better than Martyn, as good as he was.

2 excellent keepers ? Surely your not talking about flapper Hennessy.

Sarcasm is the lowest form of wit, Pity you didn't take any notice of a man who played in goal and knows, unlike you, what he's talking about.

Doesn’t matter if you used to play in goal for the dog and duck or Liverpool (which you never). If you rate Hennessy as a good goalkeeper then you either don’t watch him play, or don’t understand goalkeeping.
The only time I see you post on here is to dig out VG , maybe you’d rather he threw a few in than we won? It’s a very strange stance to take against one of our better players.
