What I don't get is that defenders make ghastly gaffes that give opposition forwards one-on-ones with the keeper and then we blame the keeper for not saving it. Keeper shouldn't have been put in that position in the first place. You might as well blame Joe Hart for letting Milivojevic' penalty in.

I agree with you 100% and the same is true for when Hennessey is in goal. Our defending in front of the keepers has been truly awful at times and yet people feel the need to constantly blame the keepers. If you have a top class keeper he may save one or two of the chances our defenders have gifted the opposition but neither of our keepers fall into that category. Unless we pay 15-30 million we won't get a keeper that is rated top class.

But even such a keeper would not exactly guarantee clean sheets. Hart was outstanding yesterday and we still scored twice. But Hart has had games where he's been less than outstanding - by all accounts last year in Italy he varied between mediocre and terrible, and look at those two free kicks Leigh Griffiths put past him. (Of course when it's Cabaye he saves it, doesn't he?)

You'll be saying that and Parish will be cursing every chance gone until we have a striker to select. Have one of those striker chaps and we'd be on 5 points more and looking good.

Rudi - I share your frustration with the current situation.

But let's not urn this into another '' Parish '' thread

Wasn't that a Sunday morning ko ? And didn't Mullery play a couple of youth team players along with his usual past it journeymen ?

Yeah I know.

Turn up, know you can't win because you have no target. Go home, repeat till December, 10 points adrift.

The second definitely wasn't but the first falls into the same category of goal that Hennessey has let in and gets crucified for. However to stop that you need to have lightening reflexes and be able to pull off top class saves.

Neither of our keepers can do that but it is unfair that only one gets criticised, personally I wouldn't blame either for most of the goals that go in.

First goal Cresswell should never of been given so much room out on the left. Didn't he lay on Lanzini's goal last season ? Second goal Dann should of squared up and made a challenge on Ayew than allow him to move about 20 yards up the pitch. Both strikes were taken well by the Spammers.

Had to laugh at Dann firing up the Holmesdale at 2-2 because if it wasn't for his junior defending they wouldn't have scored the 2nd.

Ward got drawn into the middle alongside the centre-backs.One could argue that we had bodies back when the cross came in so perhaps could have cleared it but one can forensically analyse every goal and come up with negatives.

As we saw with Lindelof the other day, defenders are loathe to make a challenge in such situations in case the attacker gets past them and then they are out of the game and the attacker has a free run at goal.

Defenders tend to drop off to get the attacker thinking and in the hope that this allows players to get back and provide cover.

Ayew is left-footed and of course scored a 'Screamer' with his left-foot.Dann might have been better pushing him on to his weaker right-foot.

Noticed on the TV that Tomkins turned his back when Ayew shot so perhaps he could have done better.
