There is little about the vegas shooting that makes some other explanation more likely that the face value one. The guy likely had a grudge due to gambling addiction, snapped and wanted to see the world burn. Well if they accept the reasoned argument, then they have to follow it to its logical conclusion - gun control, and the fact they were wrong. I've been interested in conspiracy theories every since I can remember, but studying psychology made me see them from a different perspective - not as theories, but as a kind of replacement religion or more a correctly a shield against the absurdity of reality. People don't want to live in a world where there is really no one in control (god or government), where 17 guys can hijack a plane and kill 3000 people at work, or someone can just shoot and kill a president, or in this case 50 odd people at a concert. That life can be so 'random' that chance events, can prove fatal - and that their is no real order to events in the world. So we invent conspiracies, because they make us feel safer, that someone is in control (a god if you will) that is manipulating and controlling events. Even if that's an 'evil conspiracy', it makes it a real thing in control, that can be overcome, and control of all events re-established by a good order - There is hope and a reason. Its much more difficult world to live in where a person can just turn up in the same place as you, or your loved ones, and kill them for 'no reason' (at least not one you can understand). People deal with the existential crisis of reality in very different ways. Its easier to believe that people conspired to kill the president, than realise that just one man, with a grudge and possible mental health problems, can take out the most powerful man in the world.

Governments and government organisations are notoriously poor at covering things up - and would struggle to organise a p*ss up in a brewery without someone taking memos and requiring the requisition forms to be signed off. Even CIA black operations generate a lot of paperwork.

There was no conspiracy. There was, it just involved one guy conspiring to kill the US president. Much like 9/11 there was a conspiracy - it just involved Al-Qaeda and a few related groups.
