If this goes through without a hitch it's a really good signing. Strengthened an area where we were a bit short and a pretty decent player. Always played well when I have watched him.
Some people think football is a matter of life and death. I don't like that attitude. I can assure them it is much more serious than that. |

We're not talking about a striker here, we're talking about a midfield destroyer, big difference. Adebayor and Sanogo were judged on goals, or lack of them. When it comes to a midfielder I think experience counts for a lot, especially when you are over 30. Gary Mccallister, Gary Speed, Pirlo, Alonso, Lampard. The list is endless of quality midfielders who can carry on playing at the highest level until they are 34/35. This guy is in his prime. Spoke to an Arsenal season ticket holder at work who said, Dont expect much finesse, but he will give his all, and kick a few lumps out of the opposition. Exactly what we need. It gets my goat up people judging strikers based on goals or lack of. IMO strikers are better judged on chances converted/not converted. It seems unfair otherwise. Adebayor especially looked ok to me, like he was having a real crack at it, but I think we did his confidence in, expecting him to convert hoof-balls when his experience is converting quality Arsenal passes.

I was just sitting here watching an episode of only fools and horses. Besides they were quality player's in their advancing year's in the premiership.

How about a striker that can actually create his only chances, or score a goal out of the blue, neither which Adebayor was capable of. Lets see if you have the same opinion of Benteke, if he's only scored 1 goal in 13 games.

No he’s right, Adebayor and even Campbell got slaughtered for failing to score goals out of nothing, while our attacking midfielders keep their good reputation despite creating f*ck all.

A top striker, one of his best attributes will be his movement, creating that half a yard for himself, being able to get the shot on target, something I'm hoping Benteke will bring to the side. Contrary to popular belief on this message board, I actually saw Bolasie put a few decent balls in the box last year, at Selhurst especially, but having Wickham, Bamford and Adebayor as your attacking talent would nullify any teams goalscoring ability.

Creating a half yard of space implies we've got the ball in to the strikers feet to begin with, which was rarely the case last year, and even more infrequently in a position from which a decent shot could be had.

Disagree, I saw some decent enough balls coming into the box last year, I'm not talking about them flying from all angles, every few minutes like when we were in the championship, but enough for us to score more goals, if the forwards were of decent enough quality. We may only get 2 or 3 chances in a game, especially against decent opposition, but those chances need to be taken.
