This matt_himself character is not only one of the most blinkered people I have had the misfortune of reading, he also is the most odious individual. Please feel free to believe what you believe. We will accept you with open arms post revolution as we see the good in people and understand how hard it is to accept that all you stand for is rhubarb.

Don't you think that the main parties recent policy pronouncements on immigration, culminating with the governments stand off with the EU over immigration quotas is evidence that UKIP is rattling people's cages? Sure you have a clever answer but the truth is at the moment UKIP's desire for a debate in the EU and immigration is being taken seriously.

Sure you have a clever answer but the truth is at the moment UKIP's desire for a debate in the EU and immigration is being taken seriously. It falls far short of what UKIP offer though doesn't it and it will continue to do so, because of course Cameron has no actual intention of offering anything of substance. I'm for proportional representation, because I feel that the country genuinely should reflect the will of the people. Under the current system though, Labour are likely praying that UKIP maintain their momentum because it boosts the likelihood of a Labour majority. Edited by sanitycheck (07 Dec 2014 12.25pm)

If you are going to answer, answer the question.

If you are going to answer, answer the question. I didn't 'dodge a question' because I wasn't directly asked one. I was making a reasonable point about proportional representation and UKIPs growth. But since you asked so nicely of course this new 'hard line' by the tories is a result of the rise of UKIP.

Supported Palace for over 69 years since the age of 7 and have seen all the ups and downs and will probably see many more ups and downs before I go up to the big football club in the sky. |

I listened to 'Pienaar's Politics' on Radio 5. They discussed Russell Brand. They did interviews with people waiting to get his autograph. They all agreed with Mr Brand that "positive change" was what the country needed. They had absolutely no idea what that meant. Not a single person offered a single concrete suggestion. One of them thought the fact that Brand lived a rich, international celebrity lifestyle made him 'even more altruistic'. It makes me think Brand is succeeding in conveying a nihilistic view to a lot of people. The fact that the proposed "positive change" lacks any kind of intellectual substance doesn't bother them a bit. It has all the hallmarks of a cult. I also discovered something truly incredible. There is someone EVEN MORE NAUSEATING than Russell Brand. Another alleged comedian called Jolyon Rubinstein. If these people are the future of British politics then we really are a lot more f*cked than I thought.

Positive is determined by the people making the change as a means of justifying it. The abolishment of slavery for example, was only positive to a large number of people, largely those who didn't own slaves. It wasn't even necessarily positive in its outcome for those who were slaves (see US history).
