Last year I compared us moving from shopping in Lidl to now shopping in Sainsburys.

We have now moved from shopping in Sainsburys to shopping in M&S.

Most if us aren't used to that so paying what is in effect a lot of money for us (though not in PL terms), feels alien.

We need to buy better players than we have now without getting rid of the ethos that has served us so well over the past few seasons. A few favourites probably need to go or become squad players, it will take some adjusting to

£8 million on 29 year old? really.

Not really sure what that means....£8m on an 18 year old is more acceptable ?

yes he is a proved goal machine he scored 2 of his 4 goals against the mighty tranmere rovers who are 2nd to bottom of league 2 ,£70,000 a week on 3year contract for a player who will be 30 in summer , mark lawencson of the bcc fame also spoke highly of him as well saying he looks like the sort of player that will 1 goal in about 20 chances ,but what does he know

Indeed, what does he know ?

One of the laziest, throwaway sound bite pundits around..

As for Gomis - you seem to base all your assumptions on 2 minute MOTD snippets, on a player who has had to play second fiddle to one of the hottest strikers of the last two seasons so has had very little time to acclimatise to the rigours of English football with full 90's under his belts but since becoming first choice (i.e 2 games or so ago) has hit 4 goals

If we got the player that I saw in Ligue 1 then we have a very good player and fit for how we want to play indeed

Edited by The Sash (16 Jan 2015 10.31am)

i am sorry to disagree with you on this player but as like you i want the best for palace its not even the amount of money we would spend ,its the fact i have watched him play 4 times this season and do not think he is very good, and who do i think we
should sign i do not know ,but signing somebody for the sake of it does seem a tad bit silly to me

You have been to see Swansea and watched every minute of those 4 games ???

no i have not been to swansea to see him play. but i have watched him play on live stream 4 times this season when palace have not been playing i watched him play against west ham last week ,i do admit he was a bit better than before when i watched him play but previous he was really poor ,i have family in south wales who are swans supporters and my cousin who watches them all the time does not rate him either and the feeling is they want to sell him and make a quick profit on him ,they are very cute in the transfer market and for a small club they have been very clever in buying and selling ,,,

So that's a no then

Got to be honest here Sash.I agree with Blackgirl here.
For the kind of money that's being quoted it's a big risk,I would like us to try and get Stephen Fletcher,Or Rudy geestade(is that the spelling) from Blackburn.
Just my opinion.

Gestede isn't up to it, Fletcher a maybe but would also cost big money and the more his career has gone on, the more injury prone he seems

He doesn't have the pace of Gomis either which is a big factor in why we should try to get him as opposed to the other names which seem out there

Edited by The Sash (17 Jan 2015 1.53pm)

if we do get him i hope he is as good as you say he is

Well that's the crux with transfers isn't it - the player who lit up Ligue 1 would be a fantastic signing. He would be worth 9m.

Is the current Gomis starved of starts a 9m player ?

Argubaly no, but that's the gamble

Hi I hope you don't mind me joining in, I am a Swansea fan but I do like to keep up to date with Palace as I have family who support them.

After the other night I think most Swansea fans have pretty much had it with Gomis - his attitude sucks and personally I hope we get rid in this transfer window. Before last night he had my full support and I had been willing him to do well whenever he played.

Personally I am not sure he will come to you simply because of his high wage demands - he is our highest played player (higher than Bony was) and is on about 70k a week here. We feel a bit cheated as he came here, took a massive signing on fee and wages and now wants to move on to the next pay day. Bony was the consummate professional - he probably wanted to leave in the summer yet he kept his head down, signed a new contract to help us out and worked hard and earnt his move away in this window, Gomis is the complete opposite. Yes not getting game time is annoying but he knows from now on he is our number one striker so this fuss Is clearly being kicked up because he wants to leave.

The signs were there when we signed him to be honest - at least two windows in a row us and Newcaslte had been in for him and he had been mouthing off about his current club, refusing to play etc. of course he didn't leave until he was out of contract so he could get a big signing on fee. I remember after the first window where we didn't get him I felt relieved as he had a stinking attitude, but of course when he did sign all that was forgotten and he got my full support. He apparently has a reputation in France for being completely motivated by money and having a stinking attitude.

So in my opinion if you really, really wanted him and were prepared to pay the money to us and him you could have him, but you would be much better off steering well clear.

Really have mixed feelings on this one now. Previously was all for him, in footballing terms I think he is by far the best option but the reports of `attitude` concern me. Maybe, the `I'm so good` attitude may well give him that competitive edge?

There's no way Gomis will get a pay rise coming to Palace, and frankly I'm confused why he wouldn't want to stay at Swansea where he's the first choice striker in an ambitious team that plays great football.

Entourage? Unless this has been lost in translation he can f*ck right off, the jumped up a*sehole. The team spirit seems great at the moment and we don't want a pr*ck like him ruining it.

Thanks for that Swanly. There is no way he will come here. We are not in the same ball park to start paying some no mark £70k per week. It's not even as if he was proven or anything. Seventy grand for someone who warms another teams bench. Not happening.
