With the current crisis dominating our thoughts, and the headlines, it is totally understandable that the subject that did last year, Brexit, is now very much running at the back of the field. Whether the need to concentrate on the crisis, both at home and in the EU, means that the timelines will be forced to be extended remains an open question but it would not surprise me. Events change plans. Or at least if you are wise they do. This was published by the BBC yesterday and it again raises two questions. Firstly, when will the Intelligence and Security Committee report on interference be published, and secondly, if Johnson had not suppressed it last year would we still have had a Tory government with such a large majority? Wow

Or boris and the tories My only "allegiance" is the truth as I perceive it. I don't give blanket support to any political party, whatever their current approach might be. As one poster does here. I have always regarded myself as a social democrat of the type found on the progressive wing of the Tory party. People like Ken Clarke and Michael Heseltine are my model politicians. I thought Tony Blair a pragmatist who took the Labour party the right way. I dislike politics that tend toward the extremes. I prefer a consensus view with only minor changes of direction so we can make steady progress. I dislike populism and the trend towards giving the people what they want rather than what a government believes they need. I have stated this approach many times so I hope it is clear enough for you now.

Yep, it's funny how those that consider themselves moderate have supported policies that have had such an extreme affect upon our society....yet it's the traditionalists that they want to call extremists and far right. They have lit the match and now pretend that everything is nice and cozy. Edited by Stirlingsays (15 Mar 2020 10.55am)

Simply, and only, because it was my attitude that was questioned. Yours, and others, can be found in countless other comments.

No it wasn't at all Your perception of my political bias is evident. And evidently wrong, as I have explained on numerous occasions. Late me state it in very straightforward words. I dislike left wing politics every much as I dislike right wing politics. Just because I am not a member of the right wing club that populates this place doesn't mean I am leftish in any way at all. I am a centrist. Most seem to understand that, even if they still disagree with it. In the very unlikely event that Labour ever returns to power under the kind of leadership and policies as characterised by Corbyn then you can be 100% sure they would be opposed by me just as strongly as I opposed the right wing cabal who forced Brexit over the line.

The Country voted for it...my god it is that simple! (Endorsed it with the European Elections and put 80 big fat juicy cherries on the top in Decembers General Election) For goodness sake just accept it, stop whining and get over it.

It just wasn't "that simple" though was it? There were many strands which, when knitted together, meant we ended up with the kind of deal we got and an 80 majority Tory government of the type we have. This really isn't though the time to get into another long argument over Brexit. As I hinted in my earlier post I suspect that the negotiations will have to be put on the back burner whilst we all deal with this crisis. It will certainly prove to all, I hope anyway, that acting together delivers better results than trying to stand alone. Maybe that lesson will soften the British approach whenever they resume because we are going to see a very changed world at the end of all this.
