Truss also served less time than Frank De Boeur did at a local football club.

I was actually, I felt crowning Gordon was quite wrong, he had to be elected at a GE, he fluffed the chance too, as Callaghan did, while well ahead in the polls. Truss is the latest non-elected incarnation and the shortest term I think on record. I think if that was your position with Brown then you have some legitimacy on this point now. The Truss episode is definitely a low point for the Tories....Ultimately, I blame Cameron....but I like to blame him for most things....the oven fuse blew earlier and I'd like to think the bastarrd PR man was responsible in some way.

At least she didn't have to add a 'u' to her surname unnecessarily though.
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

Flattering Johnson's ego as Napoleon returning from Elba suits the level of UK political craziness. And that's what it is.

Was you making this complaint about the selection of leaders when Gordon Brown became leader? No. I was less interested in politics then. But the same point stands then and now, if the membership voted in that instance. Also worked out terribly I think I'm just fedup with people bleating about democracy as a thing (not the nuances within it or trying to improve it), whining about elites etc. It's literally the best worst system. Or maybe it's equal to quasi dictatorships such as China, Russia etc. Either way, there's no credible alternatives. Humans basically aren't designed to operate in any other way. The same system can be improved, but it has its limits. I'm afraid it just has to be made to work in the best way possible and natural selection, circumstance and luck will determine how well you do out of it. By all means try to change as much as you can but understand it's literally part of our biology to work like this. It's ultimately a sliding scale – for periods it works better, others, worse. No doubt, but I'm yet to hear a good rationale as to why we would not simply end up in the same position, the same structures, hierarchies, 1% etc. etc. The system can change but the outcome will always end up more or less the same. As above there will be periods where it works better, and where it is worse, but it's impossible to change unless someone decides to reprogram the genome at some stage. Even so probably still ends up the same – Gattica etc. Human progress is and has always been built off the back of individual sacrifice. Can't see how that is ever going to change.

LBC got wise to this and have tried to filter them out not because they were momentum but they were not being honest about who they were. I heard one caller and it started off "I am Joe ordinary Public I don't pay attention to politics but hey this Corbyn guy sounds good". He warmed to his subject but when challenged by the presenter on some point he forgot himself and demonstrated an amazing depth of knowledge about the minutiae of Labour Party internal rules. The presenter cut him off at this point. Anyway my point is I bet all parties do this to some extent so who knows who these people are or claim to be. I take all this stuff with a pinch of salt. Interesting. Obvious when you think about it. But I'd not thought about it.
