[Link] - Trump Scammed Supporters Out of $250 Million for Nonexistent Fraud Fund Supporters who thought they were donating to “election integrity” instead saw some of their money funneled to Trump hotels “Not only was there the Big Lie, there was the Big Ripoff,” said Rep. Zoe Lofgren (D-Calif.) near the end of the Jan. 6 committee’s second hearing in laying out how the Trump campaign scammed money from supporters over false claims of election fraud. The Trump campaign sent “millions” of emails to Trump supporters about how they needed to “step up” to protect election integrity, according to the Jan. 6 committee. The money would go to the so-called the “Official Election Defense Fund” — which doesn’t appear to have actually existed, according to testimony. The fund — which, again, did not actually exist — raised $250 million, most of which did not go to election litigation, but to Trump’s newly created Save America PAC. The PAC then made contributions to Mark Meadows’ charity, to a conservative organization employing former Trump staffers, to the Trump Hotel Collection, and to the company that organized the rally that preceded the attack on the Capitol last Jan. 6.

If they actually succeeded in stopping Trump from running DeSantis still takes them to the cleaners. All they are doing is increasing polarisation amongst their own and Republican activists......In fact that appears the only thing they can successfully do. Edited by Stirlingsays (14 Jun 2022 1.42pm)
Looking at how the dollar is routing the pound (GBP is now 1.20 vs the USD and shows plenty of signs of declining further) I'd argue any economic turbulence in the US is nothing compared to where we are domestically. Assuming you're frothing at the mouth at Johnson, Sunak and co. for this cost of living crisis and the reasons as to why inflation and growth projections are weaker here than the US??

Now his views make a lot more sense.. But I digress, I can't help think that the combined impact of Brexit (not a judgement on it, just the immediate impact), Ukraine (which is a much bigger hit to Europe) and Covid inevitably knocks us for six more than some. It's hard to know the full impact of the world economy taking a dive on any country yet I feel! hold on tight.

Capitol Police officer dismisses descriptions of Jan. 6 as a tour - [Link] "U.S. Capitol Police Officer Aquilino Gonell dismissed the idea that Jan. 6, 2021 — the day a mob of pro-Trump supporters stormed the Capitol to stop Congress from certifying the 2020 election — was a tour, as some lawmakers had suggested.

I think in short things are going to get much worse in the US and worse here....that's what I'm hearing though I admit economics has never been a strength of mine (I'm hoping that once the war ends things ease a bit). From what I can gather I think we have a little better protection but not much. I take zero pleasure in any of it.....If I'm honest when it comes down to people suffering far beyond the culture war you could put a Chimp in there and if things were better I'd be happier. I'll add that I don't think the inflation rates being told to us aren't accurate ones....definitely in the US. Here is an interesting take from a trader chap that I sometimes follow. Edited by Stirlingsays (14 Jun 2022 5.12pm)

It provided a useful smokescreen for personal ineptitude and greed Not quite sure how the US handles anything politically at the moment with Biden at the helm. He always seems in need of medication.

A perfect storm. The US is in pretty terrible shape also. Maybe it'll take a year or more to get a grasp on how bad things are going to get.

Sandy Hook conspiracy theorist says she's 'proud' to harass families of children who were killed in mass shootings - [Link] Quote Prove to the world you've lost your son," Kelley Watt wrote, under the username "gr8mom," to Lenny Pozner, whose six-year-old, Noah, was killed in the 2012 Sandy Hook elementary school shooting.
A suburban Tulsa grandmother of two, Watt has spent the greater part of the last decade "researching" mass shooting incidents — which she considers false flag operations intended to push gun control legislation through the United States government, despite the fact that no significant legislation has been passed in response to such shootings. Her "research" involves sending harassing messages to surviving family members of people who have died in mass shootings, including the attack at Sandy Hook elementary school that left 20 first-grade students and six adults dead. "I just had a strong sense that this didn't happen," she said. "Too many of those parents just rub me the wrong way." Watt shared her story with Elizabeth Williamson for the recently released book "Sandy Hook: An American Tragedy and the Battle for Truth," and told the author she was "proud" of what she has done and continues to do. She explained that she spends hours trying to prove her baseless claims about Sandy Hook. Some of her theories include: that the photos of the shooter's bedroom were too barren to have a teenager living in it; that Chris and Lynn McDonnell – whose seven-year-old, Grace, was killed in the shooting – didn't cry enough for parents who had just lost a daughter; and that other parents were "too old to have kids that age." But nothing, not even proof that she's wrong, has yet dissuaded Watt from her theories, which are in line with those pushed by the likes of InfoWars host Alex Jones — who was found liable in at least four defamation cases for spreading lies that the Sandy Hook shooting was a "hoax." For example, Watt spent several years trying to prove that no company had been contracted to clean the elementary school crime scene. When presented with the name of the business and police report, was momentarily silent before casting further doubt on the evidence. "I haven't seen that document," Watt said. "But where are the receipts?" Moving the goalposts of an argument in this way is a common tactic among conspiracy theorists, who are often driven by the feelings of superiority and specialness that they know something other people don't. Watt's daughter, Madison, said she doesn't have much hope for changing her mother's mind. The conspiracy-mongering has led, at least in part, to the dissolution of Watt's marriage and contributed to tense relationships with her children. The stakes of acknowledging that she is wrong now after she has lost so much, are too great, according to her daughter. "There's a great deal of narcissism in this idea that 'everyone's got it wrong and we're in this select group of people that knows.' It would explode her own persona to allow any doubt to come in," Madison said of her mother's progressively more extreme theories. "Her whole identity has been built on this for so many years. She's invested so much." The sad realities of going 'all in' on a persective to the detriment of others. No doubt we all have degrees this way and that in terms of politics and beliefs but when it goes too far what a sad, sad state of affairs it becomes. Edited by BlueJay (14 Jun 2022 6.07pm)
