Would it be completely unreasonable to play Tosun and Benteke together as a front 2? Would they compliment each other? With Zaha and Ayew on the wings?? Just a thought.. Originally posted by doombear
The rest of the team seemed to have more confidence in him yesterday. He was played into the game more and made a nuisance of himself. Still some way to go to redemption but the applause when he came off seemed genuinely for him rather than relief at his being substituted

Only when chasing a game with nothing to lose, but we’d still keep it tight. Tbh I’d prefer Wilf and Townsend on the wings with Tosun and Ayew up front.

It's extraordinary how low expectations of Benteke have fallen, so that any performance which can't be described as 90 minutes of complete s***e gets praised. He's beyond help, get him out of the team so that someone decent can play.

I used to have a theory that if you keep kicking a ball at a lampost (Benteke) which is standing next to a bin (the goal) then eventually by the law of averages the ball will bounce into the bin. After yesterdays miss Im not so sure anymore.

Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance. |

After yesterdays miss Im not so sure anymore. The miss, and his agonised expression of disbelief is actually quite amusing when viewed in hindsight. We should all be grateful that he managed to make the run that got him into that area

I am beginning to think he's not very bright. After we scored in the first half we were pressing Newcastle again and won a throw near the corner flag. We were in added time and Tekkers had the chance to take the throw quickly. Instead he left the ball lying on the ground for another Palace player to retrieve and take the throw, so the chance to press Newcastle again after they had just conceded was gone.
The right place at the right time |

This is exactly the set up I would like to see us play but requires either a 4-4-2 or for Ayew to play as a central attacking midfielder. I think Townsend on the wing gives us more balance but you can’t leave Ayew out the way he is playing. He’d have to think of himself as a number 10 with defensive duties.

He would of had to change his aspects due to system change it's simple if you have a manager that wants striker to run around closing people down and also coming back to defend that requires physically different demands to a guy that can hand around the half way line and do quick attacking bursts. The system is the fault the guy has scored 3 in 3 for Belgium. Just look at the lack of scoring from the whole squad so it's not just Benteke Roy needs to stop being a stubborn old man and bring in some coaches that know about attacking he doesn't have a clue. We have plenty of talented players we shouldn't be playing this dull football every week you save that against better teams. Edited by grumpymort (13 Feb 2020 7.09pm) Was it the systems fault that stopped Benteke heading the ball into an open goal just begging for the ball when instead the ball hit his head and bounced wide?

He did win the header that went to Ayew who then got fouled which led to PVA’s free kick. So you could argue he contributed to the defining moment of the game (tenuous link I grant you) Edited by Bexley Eagle (24 Feb 2020 1.12pm)

The campaign to stop kids heading footballs could use Benteke as a role model
