As long as it isn’t change for the sake of change. We are one of a long list of , clubs , that go sooner or later between Premier and championship, There are three of them stuck in the bottom three right now. It isn’t wrong to want bright entertaining football, but most of the clubs in the long list ,have tried to achieve just that and it hasn’t stopped them being on the list, and spending two much time in the Championship. Most have experimented with multiple Changes of manager ,and so called nice to watch entertaining football, all to often leading to disaster. So it’s all very well pleading for new management , but all of those clubs similar to us show it is an exceptional case when it all goes well for very long.
I think Hodgson, could call it a day at his age, maybe should, it’s inevitable anyway especially if the support don’t appreciate what he has done here, but that doesn’t alter what he has done. Hodgson has kept us at the top or near the top of that list, it would be great to be in that position having hardly ever played dull to win, but the odds are heavily against no matter who gets Hodgson,s job.

Top-notch !
I garland these comments with praise.

My answer was in response to someone posting that Hodgson blamed the players at his disposal for results - which is simply not true.

Managing the national team is not the same dynamic as managing a club. You don't get to see your players day in, day out and quite often you are trying to fit them into a different way of playing to the way they play for their club.

As for Liverpool, I think the job was too big for him. Much higher level of expectation, and having to manage top players which I think he struggled with. Look at Moyes at Utd., - too big a job. He's now repaired his reputation at a smaller club.

Would he do better at Palace if we invested more in the squad ? I really don't know. What I do know is that he hasn't had that opportunity and that he has inherited the current situation. So I see him generally making the as much as he can out of what he's got.

Good one. Like you're style. Also agree with Willo when he reminds us of the unprecedented season our aging team and, frankly, the manager, are having. Dealing with the effects of Covid in a condensed season following shortly after the last one with very little pre-season must be tricky to say the least.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

I concur with these sentiments.

Oh come on, you know it runs much deeper than this. Playing a different style doesn’t necessarily mean moving from the sublime to the ridiculous. There are all manner of changes that a new manager can make including shape, transition, attacking tactics, early tactical substitutions, seeing different things in different players, having a different approach to youth, fitness regimes, the list is pretty endless. So just to say that fans want to see free flowing high octane football is not really fair on fans who are asking to see change.

I totally agree.

I would be very interested to see how our next manager goes about his business. Whenever that may be.

I also think that after 4 years in the job, players usually need a ' different voice ' other than their present manager - whatever the club, with the exception of those that are serially winning things.

But this constant criticism of Hodgson on here - some of it valid, some not and some plainly ludicrous - continues to ignore that fact that his methods achieve the objective set by his employer. So where is his motivation to change ? Ask yourself, and be honest...you enjoy your job, you are well paid for doing it and the way you do it satisfies your employers expectations - would YOU change ?

Burnley hardly play attractive football and in recent seasons we have scored more goals than them.
I was just pondering as to whether Sean Dyche attracts similar criticism from their supporters to that directed at Mr Hodgson from our fanbase.

As somebody who used to work in the law, Willo, I can confirm that you are doing a reasonable job as Hodgson’s defence lawyer.
Plenty of exclusion clauses, pre- conditions, examples of force majeure.
But I’m afraid the case for the prosecution is more compelling as the defence (as has been the case for our team this season) is weak in significant areas.

My learned friend,in the higher court of HOL, I acted as Mark Clattenburg's 'Defence Lawyer' and then as now the arguments of the Prosecution were defeated neck and crop.

completely valid point, but Hodgson and the owners can't be oblivious to stakeholder unrest and that our current 'way' is becoming obviously out of date. Good leadership anticipates disaster and course corrects. We're at that stage now.

On paper it is true Roy has at least achieved if not exceeded expectations, but it is also true that we are becoming an increasingly dour spectacle with performances seemingly getting worse season on season, even though results have remained largely similar. It could be down to personnel and our long injury list, but I'm not overly convinced it is just that. Of course it is a risk to make a change, but is anyone really convinced that the football is going to get any better with Roy at the helm?

It would be nice for the club to make a managerial transition during a period of stability, rather than a fire-fighting one. After performances like Leeds I tend to come off the ropes wanting to push him out the door now, but I do recognise what he has given to the club so I think probably a summer departure would be the best way to say goodbye.
