Sorry it IS bulls***. Your visit to Singapore did not show how things really are. You were shown bits and bobs by your guides to impress ....Maybe...It seems that you always have an excuse to cover every bit of bulls*** you quote. I suggest you stick to your political party and stop all this rubbish you keep posting. What I was told was what I said in my original post. That there are just 3 permanent posts there now. That there may be others visiting, or on temporary assignments, might be true. I have no idea about them but I can assure you that what I was told and I had no reason to doubt the word of a serving officer. If he was bs*tting me then he did it very convincingly! The overall point remains that we no longer are the military power that we once were and in places like the far east, where we were once a major player, we have withdrawn almost completely. That makes perfect strategic sense to me as we no longer have interests to protect out there and the US has largely replaced us, assisted by the Australians and New Zealanders. If you know Singapore well, and I, unlike you, have no intention to question your word, then you will know that what I told you about the dockyard and it's history is all true. Why then do you question what I was told?

WE if the OIC of British forces showed you, an outsider, “ everything we have” I would seriously question his ability to sustain that role. Susmik clearly has more knowledge on this subject and to try to say he is out of date and incorrect, is not just highly laughable but also downright insulting. You should really give it a rest and try to admit that you are not always right and people may have more knowledge than you, I know this may be difficult for you to comprehend and accept but that is a FACT But you see he didn't claim to "show me all we have". What he said was that there are now just 3 permanent posts in Singapore, 2 of them being civilian. As I just said to "Susmilk" I can only tell you what I was told. Whether there are visiting personnel or some on temporary assignments from time to time wasn't discussed. The only permanent role of our base there is to provide bunkering facilities. It matters not how much "experience" someone has. If they weren't present at the lunch when this was mentioned then they did not hear it said. I did. I still have some contact with the Sembawang naval historian who helped arrange my visit there. My father wrote a journal of his experiences there, and of those during the sinking itself, which he has used in his work. I will try to get an update from him.

What a joke Yet another politician brown nosing to ensure his future job in the EU. He should concentrate on his own election instead of interfering in another country's politics......Otherwise he might find himself begging for a seat on the commission sooner rather than later.

Read about some bitter remoaners who held a candlelit vigil because we have left the EU. What a bunch of pathetic idiots. Candellit vigils should only be done when there is a tragic event and people have died and I don't think Brexit will lead to anyone dying. Honestly some people need to get a grip on themselves.

People like you really don't "get it" do you? I saw some extremely weird people celebrating on Friday evening but I understood why, even though I profoundly disagree with them and think their reaction juvenile, and rather pathetic. I wouldn't have joined a wake for Brexit myself but some people, with every much passion for our membership of the EU as those who wanted us out, obviously felt strongly enough to express their sadness in this way. It's not bitterness at all. It's a genuine feeling of loss and of something happening that ought to have been avoided. They had every bit as much right to express those emotions as those who were celebrating.

Of course they had as much right to whatever they pleased but they weren’t described as knuckle dragging thickos.

Well said. Exactly what he has been criticising posters on here fir months Uncorroborated assertions deserve criticism. I have provided corroboration. Unless you too need to be present at the lunch when this was said before you are prepared to believe anything I say then that ought to be good enough. If it isn't there is nothing more I can do.
