The Tories won large in 2019 on the back of getting Brexit done....Now four remainers head the top posts of the party. Here Farage suggests that this could be an SDP moment for the Tories and suggests he would be a part of a breakaway party if some big hitters broke away. [Tweet Link] I watched his "show" last night. It was more like a party political broadcast on behalf of the Farage Party than a serious analysis of a political crisis. If the Tory Party splits then you can be pretty sure he will be back in politics, trying to lead the ERG faction. I have no problem with that. Those who believe the things he does need a voice. They deserve representation. I expect them to achieve the same level of electoral success that Farage has always achieved and then start to demand PR. Suits me! If the result of all this is a realignment of UK politics then I welcome it. Change always bringing better is a myth, but truly it must be true at the moment. It could hardly be worse.

Rot started with Boris, he was a weak leader now the Conservative party will be finished for a long time. I disagree as all it needs is the right person to lead the party and the damage can be limited and then slowly repaired. I have no idea who that person could be but would suggest that it not be left to the party membership's elderly buffoons to select as they have already proved that they are clueless

Very confusing this morning. The BBC says she resigned over a technical error misusing her personal email. The rest of the media say she was sacked because she had a row with Truss. My take on it is that she made a'technical' error but it was defendable. No actual major security lapse, more to do with protocol rather than anything serious. Yes, the opposition would make hay with it but ultimately chip-paper in terms of impact. But Truss refused to defend her, along with confirming that there are going to be no serious moves to limit immigration. I guess she decided to jump ship with the hopes of fighting another day. Lets see. All I know if that I am not sure if the ship is salvageable anymore. The problem is the disconnect between the membership and the political class it has as its MP's. An issue writ large in the country as a whole. The membership still want actual Conservatives to lead the country. People who do 'far right' things like cutting taxes. And dealing with illegal immigration. And wanting cops to catch robbers. That kind of dangerous extremist nonsense. No wonder the MP's want to cut them out of deciding who the leader is. Pure Fascism. Literal Nazis when you apply any kind of rational, 21st century, logic to it.

They did not want Sunak as he was a backstabbed so, thanks to the MPs that left them with Truss. From what I gather Mordaunt may well have been their choice but they had no option to vote for her. I believe the MPs wanted Sunak, so tactical voting only left him and Truss, whom they thought would have no chance. No evidence of this only my opinion

Millions going without food or heating. People dying because ambulances can't get there in time. The victims of crime who cannot get justice. That's just a few examples of the 12 years of tory misrule, it's difficult to quantify how bad they have been. And all they do is squabble pathetically and assume a divine right to govern.

Obviously things have gone, and continue to go, badly wrong but Starmer doesn't seem to be hammering his points home - his reluctance to make political gain out of Covid was admirable in it's way but what are his policies?
