As I posted earlier this reason is a poor excuse and he will turn up at Everton or Spurs. Edited by The Dolphin (25 Jun 2021 8.01am) Waking up to this news is unbelievable and quite depressing but I think you're being a little harsh on Favre. If he had actually applied for and pursued the job himself and then done this I would agree with you but by all accounts Parish pursued him, not the other way around in which case the job clearly wasn't attractive enough for whatever reason to persuade him to take it. Well done Parish for finding a good prospect and trying to hire him. Very tough that the effort failed. But there's no real blame to go around here. We move on. I think it's reached a point now where the situation is rapidly becoming desperate. Dougie, Shaun Derry, and Paddy McCarthy should all be candidates (they're the managers with some experience, albeit in Paddy's case only with younger sides, who are already at the club. They may not be the ideal choice but with the squad needing to be built and contract decisions having to be made next week, it may be best to just get one of them in and give them a shot. If it doesn't work out, we know Parish won't hesitate to remove them by Christmas but we surely can't start pre-season on Monday week with nothing and no one in place? If I was Parish I'd have one more go at offering the job to Lampard, Nuno, or anyone else on his list today (and I mean TODAY) but if they don't accept immediately and haven't signed up by Monday (a hard deadline) then I'd go with Plan B above. I don't think having no one in place by the middle of next week is a realistic option.

Perhaps my apprehension was correct. It's never done until the deal is signed and we've seen Steve Parish grinning like a Cheshire cat with the new manager photo. Sounds like we are going to have to go back to our little black book again and start phoning those who know they were at least 3rd choice. A bit like phoning up ex-girlfriends you have dumped. God I've wasted some time looking at this thread. And I honestly thought this time would be different and we would have a new manager in place within a week of the end of the season. I wouldn't have been disappointed with Eddie Howe or even at a push Lampard to get a new man in place and plans laid for the new season. Originally posted by Mstrobez
What are you expecting to fall through? He’s agreed a 3 year deal at the club, subject to a work permit that he qualifies for. Theoretically, If Palace agrees terms yesterday, Favre could’ve got a work permit as early as today. About as much chance as him not joining at this point as there is him resigning during pre-season training.

Proper depressed about this. I feel like we've just lost another cup final. At least there's the Papa John's Trophy to look forward to I suppose...

I've been saying this for a while and then my mind was put at ease when I thought we had Favre. There was a report a couple of days ago saying the club were looking at Favre and Silva as wildcards but had chosen Favre; this possibly means we'll now go back to Silva. He's a funny one as he seems to deliver results early doors and then things seem to turn sour. Way down my list of preferred candidates but it has been a nagging thought in my mind for a while. As unpopular as it may be, if we don't get something sorted soon then I would start thinking about a return for Allardyce if he wanted the job. With a preseason and some investment he would at least keep us in the premier league. Getting an inexperienced manager in too late into preseason would be a big ask for them to find their feet. Ho hum Agree about Allardyce. I mentioned this a couple of weeks ago as the emergency option. With regard to Silva, I can't work him out. He clearly did well prior to coming to England and I thought he did a pretty good job at Hull. Yes, they went down but he certainly made them a better side, improved their home record dramatically, and I don't think the relegation really reflected badly on him at all. They were more or less down when he took the job and he did improve them. His start at Watford was also excellent until he had his turned and it all fell apart very rapidly when Everton came in. That doesn't reflect very well on him, but it does happen in life. The real question is his period at Goodison, particularly the last few months where performances really spiralled out of control. However, Everton is a problem club; even Ancelloti ended up in mediocrity there but still, under Silva they were in freefall at the end of his time. Silva has shown enough to suggest there's a good manager in there somewhere but I think he has to work at the right club. Possibly, that could be Palace. He wouldn't be my first choice by any stretch but if we hired him, I'd be open-minded about giving him a chance. It's not impossible that he'd do very well here.

Perhaps we should try and prise Scott Parker from Fulham. Thought he had put together a decent team in the second half of last season once the loanies bedded in? Not sure who else is out there that’s good enough to take us on?
