Saw the game against Sheffield United. At the start VB was looking interested and winning the ball. Towards the end I saw the familiar lone figure wondering what he should do next. In that state he can be, and is, ignored by opposing players. While there will be instances of his giving effort without reward, he needs to be seen as having, and using, the ability to be in action for the team more often.

Won some good flick ons but conversely on the deck his touch was often a little heavy and positionally I feel certain that Tosun or Wickham would’ve been on the end of one of those three balls played across the 6 yard box in the first half.

Furthermore his shot in the second half lacked any conviction and sadly another entire game where he posed no threat to the opposition goal whatsoever, which for a transfer fee of £27 Million (plus add ons) and a weekly wage of £120k is nowhere near good enough.

A very fair summary. The shot in the first half where he hit the side netting was equally poor and shocking that he failed to even work the gk.

A budgie in slippers comes to mind. He has what they call in golf “The yips”. His leg seizes up when he tries to shoot.

Just been at the Sky Sports Transfer Talk Podcast featuring that Dharmesh guy from Sky Sports News. He said that Benteke to Spurs nearly happened on deadline day and only failed because Spurs only wanted a loan whereas we wanted to sell him.

Assuming there is an element of truth in that, he'll be gone in the summer.

I used to feel sort of sorry for Benteke, but after his typical lazy useless performance against Sheffield, I've reached the tipping point where I can't stand the sight of him. I never want him to appear in our shirt again, and I hate him with the passion of a thousand white hot suns.

Too severe? No, I really don't think so. It's time to hurl abuse at this absolute donkey any time he appears. I imagine that in the year 2030, we'll be in division 2, and Benteke will still be our starting striker. I swear to god, I can never imagine a time when he's not polluting our roster and destroying any chance of us scoring a goal.

Too severe, mate.

BUT, I am starting to feel the same. After feverently defending him for months, he really does just look shot of confidence. And I just don't know how he's going to get it back. That shot on the weekend was so weak. We need forwards to be putting those away.

Benteke....you're losing me!

The only way he will be gone in the summer is on a season long loan, nobody will be prepared to pay a fee for him.

Seeing him in the starting line-up is like going to a party and no beer served. Flat, boring and a lost cause. Still have no idea why Roy H. even put him on the bench?

Tosun was injured and Wickham gone but we did have another centre forward in Ayew who was played out of position and would probably have done better than Benteke if he played in his position instead

Whatever the reason he is shot now.
On Saturday he did win some balls in the air and he did a bit of hold up play but where it counts most he went missing again.
He missed a sitter when it was almost easier to score, he was out of position for a great pull back in the first half - had he been standing where a centre forward should he might have scored and then in the second half he hit a weak shot instead of rolling the ball left to MacArthur.
Add to that he runs like a constipated penguin and just does not appear to even want to try when chasing the ball down.
It is just plain wrong when that happens!
Why Hodgson started him and not play Ayew in the middle with Andros outside him I will never know.
He needs to be benched forever and let go - even on a free asap.
Murray at 36 years old on the other hand...……………….. thanks Alan!

Ayew has 6 league goals so far this season. Benteke has 4 in 2 and a half. One doesn't have to be a rocket scientist to see who should wear the no. 9 shirt.

I read an article by an ex-footballer recently, I cannot remember who it was, but cannot shake this picture of Benteke now.

He mentioned in the article that Benteke was one of those players who just does not have a 'love for football' and this for me was a real light bulb moment.

Sure he can win headers, has a touch and he can shoot of course, but he has no enthusiasm or desire. Our team do not create many chances and a player who is not bothered and happy to do the bare minimum each game is not going to get goals for us, hence his return. I would have thought given the state of play he would be almost goal-hanging desperate to score, most strikers would, but he still refuses to get in the box.

He can be fit as ever, with his natural talent and play every minute but he does not have the right mentality for this team. We should have sold him a while ago, I had been one to stand up for him in the hope he would come back, but this has passed now.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!
