I don't "know" anymore than you don't. However, all the polls suggest that is the case and although they can, of course, be wrong they are the best guide we have right now. It's just applying basic logic. The LibDems would have fared much better if Farage had not pulled his stunt or under a PR system. The election result is not any kind of reliable guide to the people's current attitude to leaving the EU, despite all the bs to the contrary. We voted in a Tory government with a huge majority but by a minority of the votes cast. How we would respond to an "in or out" question, or even a "which type" question remains unknown. This "you lost" argument is the most nonsensical and silly response I can imagine. It's resonant of the playground. I can only imagine how Farage might respond to such claims if the 2016 referendum had split the other way by the same margin.
If there is a vote, the side with themost votes WINS....so the other LOSES...why dont you understand simple maths...52% beats 48% every day!! and you still have to get an insult or two in, dont you??

Isn't that the same stunt that the Lib Dems pulled with Plaid Cymru and The Green party? Farage just copied them Hardly. Having previously announced he would fight all 650 seats he withdrew from all those where he feared splitting the vote with the Tories would let the LibDems actually gain some representation close to their true level of support. Having done, I suspect, some kind of cloak and dagger deal with the Tories. The LibDems just tried to make sure they didn't waste resources whilst ensuring the minor parties were given some chance of getting represented. Farage's action was all about fixing the result to suit his own agenda.

As I said. On this scale though it is pretty unlikely.
I will decide whether and where I will fight, unless and until I am chucked off the site. As this is not just a place for any particular world view I feel that right now a few of you need to hear alternatives. My feeling. My decision. If there is a vote, the side with themost votes WINS....so the other LOSES...why dont you understand simple maths...52% beats 48% every day!! and you still have to get an insult or two in, dont you?? No-one wins when the decision is taken this way and the result is so close. Everyone stays dissatisfied, even those who were on the side that gained a tiny majority on one particular day 4 years ago. The opportunities for a soft Brexit were thrown away by remainers in parliament...who...with much support from certain posters on here....went full on to stop Brexit. They voted against May's deal, and this guy himself supported a unity government concept which again would have been a mechanism to ultimately frustrate and get a second referendum to stop Brexit. At its last reading, all the main Brexiteers, Johnson included, voted for May's deal....ultimately the only 'soft Brexit' option. However, did we see the remainers come and compromise? Nope. They bet it all on black and it came up red. Now do you notice?...now they have been utterly defeated....Now they want leavers to be reasonable. As transparent as glass. I quite agree we ought to have accepted the May deal but a combination of various motivations stopped it. The real opportunity for a soft Brexit was though torpedoed by Corbyn refusing to put the national interest before his own and agreeing to an election rather than participating in a government of national unity. All he needed to do was stand aside and let someone else lead it but he obviously really thought he could win with his cranky offering. As he clearly personally had little enthusiasm for the EU he might now be thinking he "won". When actually he "lost". So maybe he shares more with the majority here than they think.

Edited by the silurian (16 Jan 2020 9.38pm) You completely misunderstand me. I don't give a monkey's f*ck about any insults I get here. They just amuse me as they always say so much more about those who are reduced to them than their intended target. Some advice! If you don't like being belittled try being a little bit bigger then the impact won't be quite so noticable.

Doesn't care about 'insults', yet constantly moans about it whilst giving back himself. Interesting paradox. Edited by Stirlingsays (16 Jan 2020 10.19pm)

This thread is just going around in parliamentary procedure circles without getting to the core point which is, why does leaving the EU cause such a problem with remainers? What overwhelming benefits have we received over the years which justify us staying in? We are a huge net payer rather than receiver into the EU system so what benefits have we had as a country from that relationship? I don’t need an essay response to this, just please tell me what exactly we are going to be missing out on by leaving. This is the information people need to know, but it is talked about very little.
