Who decided it is "most probably" true? And if it is true, why might they have done that? There is no decision but many dots that needs to be clarified when we review chronology between early December and 23rd January. There are key elements which misled countries from WHO such as `no human to human interaction detected (a week before Wuhan lockdown)` & `transport and trade restriction is not necessary (week when Trump put restrictions) & flu is more infectious compared to Covid-19 based on output shared with co-operation of China. For sure, other dot is `what level of investigation Western countries were running during this period? Or they were only monitoring from news feeds like us?` Originally posted by Wisbech Eagle
Both are questions for tomorrow. Right now we don't have any tomorrows. We just have a series of todays. I agree on this, what i disagree is no point to be extra ambitious to declaring `we park politics`, there are indeed and unfortunately lots of politic elements in any discussion going around between countries, WHO, media (or here) etc nowadays..Only people who are not part of this politic row is health staff & other key workers who make thing work. Of course China need to be involved. We might dislike many aspects of their political system and cultural behaviour but China is a reality. They cannot just be ignored. I am not fan of isolated China which is simply utopic & unnecessary, but ambitious for rest of the countries to review the need of cheap sources and being blind to other emerging risks to avoid losing that workforce. One of the key take-away of this crisis is that world need a balance. However, that is a separate and lengthy topic Edited by blackheatheagle (15 Apr 2020 8.51am)

What was it a couple of weeks ago when WHO agreed to rename the virus and leave it unconfirmed it came from China? Very obedient, or just so soft.

If we decide after all this is over that the WHO needs an overhaul because it's decisions were flawed then sobeit. Lessons will be learned by everyone. Hindsight and the political blame game are tomorrow's news, and not today's. Doing what Trump has done now is simple diversion. It's what he does when he needs to take the heat off him. This most surely is not the time for politics but for co-ordinated action and international co-operation. Joining in the blame game is just to encourage Trump. It will cost lives.

But par for the course from Trump. Especially if you read the article quoted by SW19 It is and it needs to be called out for what it is everytime he does it. I hope our government condemn his action today in unequivocal terms. That article was a terrific piece. Accurate and extremely cutting, whilst being very funny too. I have already borrowed it! If a link could be found I would post it as a reply on his Twitter so that some of his followers could read it.

I agree with what you say, but the WHO bowing down to China who are responsible for this? The Chinese government are a disgrace and I bet little happens on that score later.

I think there are some pretty big "ifs" there. Is the mud being slung at the WHO justified beyond any kind of reasonable doubt? Or is a kangaroo court, with Trump in the chair, giving a guilty verdict and summary execution before all the facts are known? I am not at all convinced that the attacks on the WHO are justified. Calm heads and a detailed analysis is what is needed to thoroughly investigate and that's impossible in such a fast moving situation. People took decisions. Some will have been right and some wrong, but only seen as wrong after the event. Instant hindsight is rarely very helpful.

I agree with a lot of this or put simply Trump is a bully and we British don't like that. 'A Jabba... of privilege', albeit extremely childish (but hey, fight fire with fire, right) amused me the most
Did you know? 98.0000001% of people are morons. |

Whether or not the WHO has blamed China, not blamed China, or whatever, perhaps it's fair to say that their dealing with the Coronavirus has been poor. They are basically another toothless international cosy quango. Frankly, I don't see why anyone would care if Trump removes their funding or not. They have been as much use to the world as a chocolate fireguard and good riddance to them.

Trump doesnt get the info himself. He employs people who have clearly identified an issue. Trump is the one to pass on the message. If other countries start questioning their contributions and the help that the WHO have been, how would your take on it be then?
