The window opened on 9 June, but contracts run from I July, so there's plenty of pre-contract activity going on between other clubs and their targets. It's about time Phil Alexander earned his salary, he can be working on the pre contracts etc. We will have our targets already.

This post has been merged from a topic called 'Getting Worried' by kenbarr I'm posting on this thread rather than the New Manager thread as I'm not talking about who the new man might be, but rather about whether the absence of a manager as of mid-June is a cause for concern within itself. The obvious concern is that we are falling behind in the market. Whilst I appreciate that most deals get done later in the window rather than earlier, that isn't because everyone is away on international duty, or holiday, or whatever. It’s because most deals are dependent on other deals. Most clubs will have lined deals up already, had some talks etc, but players and clubs are all waiting to see if their other options come up before committing. Just because very few deals are over the line by mid-June doesn't mean that there isn't an awful lot of negotiating going on behind the scenes everywhere. As soon as one deal somewhere else in the chain gets done, that filters down and affects everyone else who might have moved to, sold to, or bought from that club, like a giant game of transfer Kerplunk. If you’ve not got a variety of potential deals underway to some extent when it all happens, you are left having to react on the hoof. Nevertheless, this is but one transfer window. We are presuming that we are in the market to buy players, but perhaps we are not. Perhaps the club feel that getting more out of the current set of players is the priority, and with a £300k p/w front three backed up by a £200k p/w midfield I could understand that. It’s not ideal to fall behind in the market, but the vital thing is that we get the right man to get the best out of what we have already got. So long as that man is in place when the players report for pre-season, we can afford one slow window. Just.

This post has been merged from a topic called 'Parish on Silva' by kenbarr Originally posted by cpj Maybe Steve had already booked his holiday when Big Sam took the decision to retire so why shouldn't he still go.. just like anyone else he's entitled to break and get away.. and as others have already said, in this modern world I'm sure he was still contactable and kept informed of everything that was going on related to CPFC.. from Steve's tweet he offered to fly Silva out to where he was or go home early so what was the problem?..
I'm not saying I wanted Silva, but I don't see why SP had to go to Majorca on his hols when we need to get a manager in place. There's certainly no reason why he needed to be there to sort out Zaha's deal - that could have been done in SE25.

<snip> We are presuming that we are in the market to buy players, but perhaps we are not. Perhaps the club feel that getting more out of the current set of players is the priority, That can't be the case as Steve Parish is as aware as the rest of us that we desperately need a quality central defender and having lost two of our four attackers we surely need reinforcements there too

Do you think he just cuts himself off from the world on holiday. Unfortunately in these times, people are expected to be contactable 24/7, so he would of been still working on holiday i.e. Zara contract. No, I'm sure he's got a place out there and is probably there a lot of the year and keeps in regular contact with the club, but I still feel that he should perhaps have been in the UK to try and get a new manager sorted out. Three weeks on from Sam leaving and we seem no closer to a replacement.

I don't know about everyone else but I am starting to get concerned now for the new season. Surely if BFS was still here we would have released/transfer listed more fringe players whilst so having identified potential ins if not already signed a couple. The new man is going to have to analyse the team then make decisions on who to let go and which areas need improving all taking time. With the season we have just had surely we wanted to start the summer in better shape and being prepared. The fixtures are released on Wed and other teams are buying players all be it the big at present. Options on the manager front seem to be running out and as it stands at present instead of us looking up the league for a top 10 finish I think we could well have another struggle on our hands if a new man is not appointed soon. It has also been so quiet from the club on both BFS leaving and us looking for a new man. Does no one have any inside knowledge anymore. Concerned supporter. don't worry, tis just the Palace way

Yes you can have a list of players to watch/scout but until a manager comes in and works with what he has he wont know what is needed to fit his system. After all this Parish will end up getting the managers job lol

A massive constantly-updated dossier of potential recruits for the current or any new manager to look though.
