I can only speak for myself but I know many others who hold similar, if not identical, views over the EU to my own. My reasons for wanting to stay in go far beyond simple economics, important though they are. It has nothing whatsoever to do with the life I have, which is very unlikely to change in the time I have left anyway. We are geographically part of Europe and that cannot change. My parents fought in a war to bring peace and harmony to our part of the world and I know my Dad approved of us getting closer to the other countries in Europe to avoid it ever happening again. Security matters to me every bit as much as the economy. What I want for our country is a good secure future for my children and grandchildren. Not for me. I want them to live in a progressive, modern, outward looking country where everyone enjoys the same opportunities. I don't doubt for a moment that some voted leave for other than fiscal reasons. Indeed many, if not most, did so. That though doesn't mean those reasons were valid. Indeed many, in my opinion, were not but were relentlessly promulgated by the leave campaign as propaganda. Especially on immigration. Just because that those who are strongly Euro sceptic have had their arguments refuted for decades is no reason at all to act triumphalist now. I have a heads up too. This type of attitude will come back to bite in the rear end. It's not a question of if, but only of when. I don't expect I will make much difference at all. On my own and in the short term that is. Together with others and in time I expect to. Keeping the issue alive and letting people know there is an alternative is but a small contribution.

The guy who spoke of racists and stupid people voting for Brexit accuses me of speaking the 'language of division'. Honestly, I don't think he cares about contradicting himself. He's got that pin to dance on and whenever you show his logic up as weak he just resorts to bare face denial, word games/salad.....it's not straight, it comes across as a bit pathologically dishonest. He talks such deluded BS that I find I sometimes can't help myself responding to him. I must try harder because I think it's deliberate.....I think we might be feeding the dysfunction of a contrarian looking for attention.

Wow I wasn't aware that data on intelligence and personal bias was available from the referendum, was this part of the voting process? You can't come on here as the voice of reason and make generalised comments like that and then expect people to respect your opinion. We never know why people vote a certain way all we can do is speculate. I accept it is an assumption but hardly a very controversial one is it? What percentage of stupid and racist people do you think voted remain? Makes no sense that they would. Brexit wasn't a racist decision per se but my observations were that those people who hold views I regard as racist also tended to be in favour of leaving. Presumably because of their views on immigration and immigrants. Perhaps I should make it clear that I am talking only of the ethnically British. People from immigrant cultures may well hold "anti-white" views, and voted to remain, but as they constitute such a small percentage of us I don't regard them as statistically relevant. Of course if you don't think racist people exist. or if they do then they aren't stupid, you aren't going to acknowledge this at all. You are going to add further insults and denials and ignore all the reasoning given to explain why the remainers are not just concerned with fiscal matters. ] Edited by Wisbech Eagle (11 Jan 2020 10.56pm)

I was teaching in 2016 and I knew a few anti white teachers from a certain demographic who voted remain. Still, I wouldn't speak such absurdity to generalise a sub section of remain as being stupid and racist...just for the purpose of cheap insult. That just wouldn't be speaking the 'language of healing' now would it. Edited by Stirlingsays (11 Jan 2020 10.34pm)
