That there were some inaccurate claims made by some of those fighting Brexit is true, which is hardly a surprise. Balanced though against the nonsense routinely published in the likes of the Sun and the Mail and in social media memes by the Brexiteers they pale into insignificance. Search long and hard enough you will always find a little bit of muck to throw around. However, when your opponents are standing knee deep in a cesspit it's them who are creating the stink. Chlorinated chicken is not a health hazard anyway. It's just an emotional problem. Hormones could be. The government have rather boxed themselves in by making this statement. Maybe they know that there isn't actually going to be a new trade deal with the USA because we really will tie the knot again with the EU on trade. Let's hope so. They may tie a knot but it wont be as huge as the one that's getting un knotted on the 31st.

I also expect the "woke" to be out there in large numbers I mean why wouldn't they? They are always insisting we "celebrate" one thing or another

An excellent suggestion.

If you want to heal the country then you don't celebrate something that half of it doesn't want and a good number of them are resolutely opposed to. I cannot see even this government being that stupid. It will be a test of Johnson's attitude and a marker for the rest of his premiership. Declaring the 3ist Jan as a Bank Holiday would be the most offensive and divisive thing possible. Have your celebratory drinks by all means. Do it quietly in the comfort of your own homes and with your friends please. It won't happen in our local pub that's for sure. The landlady wants people to remain friends and discourages political discussion of all kind. On 1st Feb nothing really changes. The argument for common sense and reason remains and will continue to be made. It's just become a marathon and not a sprint with a few hills to clime on the way.
For the avoidance of doubt any comments in response to a previous post are directed to its ideas and not at any, or all, posters personally. |

People will be celebrating the fact that despite the losers in the referendum doing their best to hold the country to ransom for three years the first hurdle in achieving what the majority of the country wanted has been passed
