Silvertop made a point about Burnley and Palace being similar in terms of funding. Burnley have bought practically no one in the expensive part of the transfer window. Now the lower value section of the transfer window is here I believe Burnley will add to their squad wisely and the players they buy will slot in quickly. I hope we can match them but only with players that fit the system and bolster weak areas not with players that flatter in the Championship but may not cut the mustard in the higher leagues.

Looking at the respective spending over 4 seasons, 2016-17 to 2019-20, the 'Net Spend' of the two clubs has been almost identical, around £55 Mill.

Times have certainly changed and I had this discussion only last night.

Gone are the days when a manager or coach analysing the opposition attend games in all climes with a set of cards on which a football pitch is printed and they scribble the movement of players at set-pieces!

Yep now all you need is good internet connection and comfy armchair

Thank you very much.
All is well in the 'Willodom' ! Given my pessimism season-on-season perhaps it should be "WilloDOOM' !

What is really frustrating is, we were possibly in a position to invest in the club with the likes of Watkins and Benrahma but whoever runs the roost at the club won’t invest, and instead we spend money on loan moves, and so called ‘free transfers (Meyer).,

Obviously Eze is the exception, but that’s £ freed up by finally paying for Tekkers , who along with CW (wherever he is) were given contract extensions to keep our inflated wage bill nice and high.

Why on earth we don’t move Meyer, Tekkers and other fringe players on that drain resources and offer nothing is equally frustrating, those 2 players soak up what 10mill at year ...

You do know that would have cost almost 50m for 2 championship players?

1) Hennessy

6) Tomkins
7) Dann
Sakho
9) Cahill
10) Kelly
11) Mitchell

22) Ayew
23) Zaha
24) Benteke
25) Wickham
26) Batshuayi
27) Woods
2 Inniss
29) Jach

Inniss, Woods, and Jack are all unlikely to make the 25 man squad. But that still leaves us one player over. Can't see Benrahma, Clyne, Welbeck, Wiltshire or anyone else joining for the moment.

Wickham and one of Kelly/Dann are the only others I can see droping down a division.

Sorry Jeagles but you've miscounted and jumped from no. 15 to 17. Also Mitchell doesn't count because he was under 21 as at 1st Jan 2020 (the cut-off date) Under 21s don't have to be included in the 25 man squad, so assuming the three you mention don't make the cut, we still have one place left for Clyne/Welbeck/Wilshere or whichever other old crock we might want to bring in (or exciting EFL player?!?).

The age limit also means that we can play Pierrick, Kirby, Banks etc. should we wish to.

Olly Watkins slotted in quickly because he had one of our best midfielders, Grealish, working for him.

What can we offer an aspiring forward? Scraps.

We are, and have been since the days of Michael Hughes, Ben Watson and Barry Bannon crying out for a constructive midfielder.

Why didn't we go for Ruben Loftus Cheek who now seems to be on the move? We won't find another Jack Grealish but would Jack Wilshere be worth taking on as a 'pay as you play' signing ?

People are expecting Batshuayi to recapture his 1 in 3 games goal ability. He won't because he won't get the type pf ball that he (and Ayew) need.

It seems Plan B for subs is to bring on Benteke which is a waste of time because we are not crossing the ball.

As the manager will not persevere with Meyer or Reidewald it seems we will be pursuing the 0-0 tactics used against Chelsea. If that continues then relegation will be a distinct possibility.

Just a thought if anyone thinks the transfer window is closed.... All the players we have signed (& Clyne), are based in England, sure we know that window open until Friday week??... You never know

'Transfer Window 2' is open until 5pm on 16th October for domestic transfers.
PL clubs can trade with EFL clubs and below.
There are players in the EFL who are interesting PL clubs.

Roughly the cost of one Tekkers. If we don’t invest we will eventually fail .... without selling Wilf we are not in the market. AWB £ serviced debt, Sorloth we some how got £ back .. but we are running out of saleable stock so to speak ..

Tekkers . Zero resale
Sakho . Zero resale
Meyer. Zero resale
Jach. Zero resale
Wickham. Zero resale

The list goes on out of our 25 man squad who would we get more than 10 mill apart from Wilf in this market.

A good number of our 1st team squad will be out of contract next summer, including some of our highest wage costers (I won't say 'earners' because few of them actually earn a fraction of what they are getting).

I can't see many of them having their contracts extended. of the five you've quoted I only see Meyer being offered anything (and I think you are unfair to suggest he has no resale value. He's still young and in the right set-up will perform).

The next transfer window isn't that far away (12 league games) so there'll still be basically half the season to go when it's over. By then we'll have a better picture of:
1. when crowds will be back and what capacity
2. how our team are placed with regard to survival
3. how our academy recruits are faring in the new set up
4. which youngsters may be able to step up to the plate before the end of the season
5. what we'll need in the way of new players

It will be interesting to see whether the club can identify young players in the EFL during the next 10 days who might make the grade.

It's not all doom and gloom just yet (but it may come to that, of course).
