Eze has not got back to his best yet but he's still by far our most creative player until Olise is fit again. Despite some carelessness in possession he still does things that no other player on the pitch would even imagine. Because he doesn't complain I think sometimes people don't notice how much rough treatment he gets. Semenyo made a few attempts to step on his Achilles before succeeding the other night and other players were clearly tripping him and kicking him.

I still think the way he plays he would struggle at a big English club in which these days managers seem to look down on exuberance. It's like Grealish, a joy to watch at Villa but at City he has been forced to be a team player in a boring tappy tap system.

It's not Fifa ffs, just because someone is deemed 'fit' enough to start does not mean they are going to be back to their fully maurauding, accurate selves. I think he's earned some credit to get back to form.

You're right though, that he needs to play in a better team.. but if our first 11 is ever available, then this team is good enough for him.

No, just not give the ball away 25 times a match ffs.

Eze's had a stop/start season due to injuries. And it always takes him time to get his rhythm going again.

He's frustrated me against Forest and Bournemouth with some poor decision making and not protecting possession more carefully.

I'm expecting him to find some form again when Olise returns and takes some pressure off of him.

Let's be honest, eze lacks in so many attributes, he's among the best player in the league when It comes to dribbling, maybe 2nd to only foden. When you look at other attributes, speed, acceleration, strength, work ethic, tackling, shooting, game management, passing, he scores pretty low. Tho he's still our most exciting player, take him out the team and we would be absolutely dire.

When you compare him to other players at the big clubs who play in a similar position, palmer, foden, silva, de bryne, maddison, jota, fernades, odegaard, he's not better than any of them so unless he wants to warm the bench, he should stay here.

What's the weather in PalaceLand today?

From 3000 miles away, the Forum suggests that many are living in a continuation of yesterday's dismal conditions at Kings Park. Yes, Ebs was off his game, but he did a fine job of finishing Ayew's useful cross – if only JPP hadn't been a shoelace or so offside. And without Guehi, Doucoure and now Richards, our central defense will be hard pressed to stop any Premier League club.

Count our blessings that Henderson showed some promise, Andersen returned to form, our set piece play has improved, and Wharton & Munoz have notably elevated Palace's play from box to box.

Excellent post, yep the glass is half full not half empty

As I see it if you give the ball away 20 odd times in a match you're not going anywhere

Its something the coaching staff should be working on but I don't see it improving under the new lot so far

To my mind Eze is a player capable of great moments rather than a great player.
Great players have to show up most games rather than 1 or 2 in every 5.
In fairness, there are mitigating circumstances.
He tends to play better when Olise plays and at the moment, as far as I'm concerned, he's playing out of position.

This stat of having given the ball away 20 times in the game seems to be appearing a lot & on its own I feel its a pretty one sided stat - Given that Eze is our main creative out ball (& at the risk of me being made to look stupid)

I would be interested to know how many balls into him he received

Giving the ball away that many times doesn't really need much context to be honest - there are no mitigating circumstances for being that wasteful, even if you factor in the creative burden etc.

For context, he received 56 passes against Bournemouth which was the most on our team (as you'd expect).

He attempted 58 passes of his own with a success rate of 70.4% - of the ten outfield starters, only Andersen and Mateta had a lower %.

He also attempted 7 take-ons, and was successful with 3 of them.

You can't lose the ball nearly 50% of the time you receive it, regardless of role or playing style.

Ozoh was for some reason put at the back and Lerma moved into midfield. Bad management, that change wasn’t needed and just made us weaker and I would sAy resulted in the defeat?

we renewed injury prone and high earning Tomkins in the summer because we wanted cover at CB.

We then bought Holding a few weeks later - who is also regularly injured and on big wages.

The other night with 2 CBs injured we played a midfielder and a RB alongside Andersen.
We then bought on a young CM in the 2nd half who was completely lost.
Tomkins remained on the bench.

Is he now 7th choice CB?

What a joke

As a squad with limited CB options, why not switch to a back 4 for the last 10 minutes and add an extra player to midfield especially as Wharton had been taken off!

That seems the most flexible way to go and just maybe we would stopped the flow if pressure on our goal!

BTW our fitness, speed and passing accuracy is shockingly bad at the end of games!
