The most annoying thing is not that we will lose him at some point but that we will not get what he is worth. Someone is going to get him cheap.

But then we got him cheap from Reading. What goes around comes around where release clauses are involved.

"Currently, under FIFA and FA transfer rules, if a club wants to procure the services of a player registered with another club, they must speak directly with that club and not to the player or his representatives. The player and his representatives will only be brought in for discussions with the potential purchasing club once the two clubs have agreed a fee."

[Link]

RH said, "If there are clubs who are desperately or seriously preparing a bid and tempting him away then he’ll have a decision to make."

Several clout chasers claim that personal terms have been agreed already. Really? Before an official bid? Before speaking with the club first? We have a good relationship with Chelsea, hence the Lewis Hall loan deal. Poch and RH get on well too. Are they really going to jeopardise that for an injured player?

By the way, most of the gossip about Olise is coming Chelsea fans.

I am not a bot. No, seriously, I'm not.

They’re just about to pay Brighton £115m. Are they really going to shell out for Olise as well?

And buy Lavia for £50m from Southampton too!
They also have a lot of young players that they have bought for big money that play in his position or the "reported" attacking midfield role that Poch apparently wants him to play in.

This from the Guardian on line - “Chelsea are responding by stepping up their interest in Olise. His contract contains a release clause higher than the widely reported £35m.”
Previously they talked about Chelsea or Man City having to pay north of £50 million if they want Olise.

I remember a few years ago when Arsenal were interested in Zaha and were reputedly quoted £80 million with the bulk up front.
Parish was asked about this and his view was that Zaha was irreplaceable to Palace so the long contract and high value was a deterrent to other clubs.
There is an argument that he was irreplaceable to us at the time - we couldn’t win a game without him and carried practically zero threat in his absence.

I would distinguish this from Olise who to my mind not irreplaceable to us.
He’s been unavailable for the start of each of the last 3 seasons and has had poor spells of form and inconsistency.
Don’t get me wrong - he’s potentially an outstanding talent with lofty ambitions and that’s why the top clubs are interested.

However, I’m not sure where some of the outrage on these forums are directed.
Is it the ‘low’ £35 million fee, or the fact that clubs are having the audacity to try and buy him?
If you insert buy out clauses in contracts don’t be surprised when buying clubs try to take advantage of these clauses.
After all weren’t we the beneficiaries in exercising the clause when Olise was at Reading?

Agree, far from the end of the world if he goes. I'm actually surprised Chelsea are interested at this moment in time - he is clearly very talented but he has a lot of development still to do. He could be the most expensive attacker in history that is yet to discover his right foot...

For Olise, another season of week in, week out football will do him wonders. He needs to build some consistency of performance and get his goals tally up to really get to the next level.

If he does go, cash or cash + swap are both good options. Clearly we'd be desperate for a new winger, probably two. I'd hope the club are trying to get a winger regardless of whether Olise goes.

Jack Harrison is injured until mid-September - sounds exactly like our profile!

Yes i think its more the low fee rather than the necessity to keep him . To be totally honest and just my opinion of course and probably in the minority here but i think he is a bit of a one trick pony . Cut inside curl it to the far post with his left foot or cross with his left foot or a free kick with his left foot . He is not great at tracking back or defending . Keep him on his right and he is very much off his game . The potential is there to be a worldie alright but anything over 50 mill and id take the money and run as long as the money is re-invested in the squad which is already light .

When Alan Birchenall signed for Palace from Chelsea in 1970 he said that, at Chelsea he was just a spoke in the wheel, but when he moved to Palace he became the cog. The reverse would probably be true if Olise moves the other way. So the question is, does he want to be the main man or just a squad member?

Good point he had a breakthrough season last year but would not be a starter for Chelsea.

It would be better for his career to stay with us another season cement his reputation and then move when he would have a better chance of first team football.

I Think if he has any sort of release clause he will be gone before window closes, if he dosent he wont be going anywhere under 50m
