Odd the other day Eddie Howe was pleading poverty, it will be interesting to see how much they spend and if they buy fro other PL clubs who supposedly are boycotting them.

I think if I was NUFC my focus would be on clubs like Barcelona who have a good number of stars & are struggling financially.

Norwich, Burnley & ........... for the drop ?

Newcastle…just because they’re gonna splash the cash in January doesn’t mean they’ll turn it around enough to avoid the drop. £61M spent on Almiron & Joelinton alone and look where that got them. Plus in Eddie Howe they don’t have a proven manager at digging themselves out of it like an Allardyce or Pullis.
Howe took Bournemouth down when they were in a similar situation and had no answers to their struggling form in the second half of the season.

They played well tonight against an under performing Man U.

Still only a point though and it looked like Callum Wilson & Allan Saint-Maximim will both be sidelined for a few weeks with calf strains picked up during the game.
(Someone else mentioned ASM always picks up an injury for the winter spell)

Seeing as the winter spell lasts for two thirds of the season and he is living in Newcastle, my guess is he isn’t that keen on playing at all.

I see the logic but how committed would those players be in getting involved in a relegation scrap. I know that the weather and ladies of Newcastle are on a par with Barcelona (I'd better stop here)...

The counter argument is that as Newcastle have money to burn why not buy some championship grafters only to happy to get a chance on the big stage and prepared to fight. You can always get rid of them at the end of the season when the real team build will start.

That sentence - You can always get rid of them at the end of the season -

Does make you wonder if the negotiations that NUFC try to do with incoming players will either be short term ( until the end of the season) or will include a relegation / renegotiation clause -
For sure it wont help in efforts to attract players.

Suggestions Wilson could be out for months, which if it is the case will undoubtedly see a striker become their main priority, but where do a club with only 11 points secure a quality striker with the experience to hit the ground running? With ASM possibly also out for a few weeks they look in real trouble. Their next three games are ones I'm sure they would have been targeting to get points but without their two only significant attacking threats it's hard to see them getting much more than a couple of draws at best.

I had expected them to buy themselves out of trouble, but if results don't go their way in January they may already be almost beyond saving by the time the transfer window closes. Who they sign in the next month could change my view, but right now I can't see them staying up.

Newcastle -23 goals their defence is the problem.

Usually the bottom two relegation slots go to the leakiest defences.

Thought they should have beaten dis-jointed Man U.

I think their problem the last two seasons has also been ASM and Wilson can't stay fit. When they are both in the team they have a fighting chance in most games. When they're out they don't score. Shelvey has a great passing range, but when ASM and Wilson are out he has no one to pass to. Joelinton has a shot conversion rate of 6% this season! Ryan Fraser must be getting a strange sense of deja vu
