With limited funds, we'd be absolutely bonkers to spend 40m on a striker as the money could be much better spent making the team more balanced which would in turn improve our current strikers.

We will not be parting with £40 Mill for Nketiah.

For £40m, I think it’s reasonable to expect a bit more, than runs about a bit looking enthusiastic! Well, that's the inflation in today's football.

Arsenal think so much of him that Arteta waits till the 81st minute to bring him on yesterday when the rest of the so-called attacking players couldn't hit the proverbial barn door.

We could pay a large enough monthly loan fee - say 4-500k a month. Have that taken into account in the summer with say a 17-20 mil fee up front and in installments. Then maybe 5 mil or so in appearance/ goal related bonuses and it doesn't seem so unlikely. A future sell on clause and it could be near the 40 mil they want. I'm not totally sold on the player, however, he is English and young enough. I actually think that suddenly Edouard and Mateta aren't the worst up front and Nketiah could cover as a striker but play wide for us. I think he can play on the left and right.

there is no way he's coming to us, and can't believe we still have an interest. 1. Arsenal are short of strikers and Jesus is injured. Why would they sell? Can Dougie etc please move on. We have been linked with him for over 2 years now.

Two words.. Roy Hodgson No chance palace will spend any money while Roy is here still. He just won’t play them and they must know that by now.

Can we actually focus on realistic targets?

Funny how people can have different views on the same player. I would say Nketiah is a very realistic target for Palace. Young, local to the area and possibly not quite good enough to be part of a title winning team. Like most transfers at this time of year there are a lot of dependencies for transfers to happen. In this case Arsenal are going to need to secure a player who they deem as an improvement on Nketiah. Lets say they see either Toney or Osimhen as the player to do this. Brentford would almost certainly need to secure another forward to help preserve their premier league status ( particularly with Mbeumo also out ) Who are they going to get in at short notice to fill the gap? Similarly Napoli will face the same issue if they cash in on Osimhen who is also on AFCON duty for Nigeria. In the case of Brentford let's say they they see Mateta as a player who could do the job instead of Toney? This could enable the transfers to happen if the players are happy but would Palace pull the pin as we may not necessarily be any better off by in effect replacing Mateta with Nketiah.
