Perez says it isn't over yet well it is for now so what's his game. Real Madrid are in the brown stuff financially so maybe he is looking for compo from the clubs that have withdrawn? Funny if Madrid are broke how come they keep being linked with top players? It maybe gossip but I hope the media remember this during the transfer window and if they do sign players remind the public.

Very percipient. Except the Newcastle part obviously. TBF, Newcastle were quite 'elite' back then. They did the double over us in 1994/95 for starters!
Palace since 19 August 1972. Palace 1 (Tony Taylor) Liverpool 1 (Emlyn Hughes) |

Well they wanted an NFL type system so how about a draft where the dirty dozen are allowed to sign the best players for free and everybody else has to pay.

The opposition goalkeeper could also be tied to the post and goals scored by clubs with “Real Madrid” in their name should count double or treble.

I understand where you're coming from however it still enshrines football's current top order meaning that no 'second rate Eastern European league' or challenger club will ever have a chance. There are plenty of European titans of yesteryear that have faded away, such is the cycle of success. That cycle should always be left to play out. Originally posted by CrazyBadger
Who Doesn't want to have a league which includes *only* the best teams in the World playing, rather than the over inflated competition which includes some dross opposition from some second rate eastern european league that is the Champions league. UEFA have been up in arms about it - but lets not quibble the fact that they are only mortified because it'll be in direct competition to them and will devalue their product. They are supposed to govern all football in Europe, and this also a challenge to their monopoly of power, which to be frank, isn't a bad thing. The issue is how they have gone about it, and how they have the sanctimonious right-to-be-there-every-year attitude. They have not talked to anyone in footballing world, and have not considered anyone but themselves. What's required is a system whereby not getting into European competition is not the Death of their finances, one where any team can qualify if they are good enough, and when they actually get to the Creme de la Creme, they are not forced to play horribly inferior opposition. Point is it's not a bad idea. just Executed by a bunch of tosspots. End of ramble.

We have a coeffient system, which while isn't perfect, has the right idea. Teams who achieve in their own leagues still get rewarded by a place in the top european competition. by making the CL a league of fewer teams, rather than smaller groups with more overall teams, you should get consistently get the games the world wants to see.

Can’t understand why Spurs were involved, they are hardly a top 6 side. Not won anything in nearly 40 years and average Premier league position is 8th. Even ruined Mourinihos record of winning a trophy at every club he has managed. Edited by Painter (22 Apr 2021 1.19pm)
